Michael Torrissi
Michael Torrissi Jr. (born 1974) is an American Republican Party politician who has represented the 8th Legislative district in the New Jersey General Assembly since he took office on January 11, 2022. Torissi graduated in 1993 from Hammonton High School. In February 2011, Torissi was appointed to fill the vacant Hammonton Town Council seat that had been held by James Bertino until he resigned to take a seat on the Board of County Freeholders; he served until 2012. New Jersey's 8th Legislative District is one of 40 in the New Jersey Legislature, covering the Atlantic County municipality of Hammonton; the Burlington County municipalities of Eastampton Township, Evesham Township, Hainesport Township, Lumberton Township, Mansfield Township, Medford Township, Medford Lakes Borough, Mount Holly Township, Pemberton Borough, Pemberton Township, Shamong Township, Southampton Township, Springfield Township, Westampton Township and Woodland Township; and the Camden County municipalities of Berlin Borough, Pine Hill Borough, and Waterford Township as of the 2011 apportionment. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 221,840, of whom 175,200 (79.0%) were of voting age. ''The Press of Atlantic City'' is the fourth-largest daily newspaper in New Jersey. Originally based in Pleasantville, it is the primary newspaper for southeastern New Jersey and the Jersey Shore. The newspaper designated market runs from Waretown in southern Ocean County (exit 69 on the Garden State Parkway) down to Cape May (exit 0). It also reaches west to Cumberland County. The paper has a combined print and digital daily circulation of 72,846 and a Sunday circulation of 95,626. The ''Press'' closed its printing facility in Pleasantville in 2014, at which time it outsourced printing to a facility in Freehold. The New Jersey Legislature is the legislative branch of the government of the U.S. state of New Jersey. In its current form, as defined by the New Jersey Constitution of 1947, the Legislature consists of two houses: the General Assembly and the Senate. New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. Sims'' US Supreme Court decision mandated all state legislators be elected from districts of roughly equal population), each county was an electoral district electing one senator.
