Michael Smyth (journalist)
Michael Smyth is an Australian journalist and broadcaster based in Adelaide, South Australia. Career Smyth was a reporter and newsreader with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in its Adelaide newsroom for almost 12 years. During that time he read the South Australian edition of the 7PM TV News. He also reported for and produced the now-defunct weekly ABC TV local current affairs program '' Stateline'' and occasionally presented programs on 891 ABC Adelaide. In 2005 he won the SA Media Award for Best TV Broadcaster. In September 2008 Smyth left the ABC to join NWS–9 as a senior reporter for ''Nine News'' and in 2011 began presenting the weekday news with Kate Collins. In October that year it was announced that Smyth's contract would not be renewed, as part of cost-cutting measures by then station owner WIN TV. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. ''Stateline'' was a television current affairs program produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It provided analysis of state and municipal politics as well as insight into state and regional issues in a current affairs journalistic style. The program was known for its interviews with politicians, and for its coverage of important regional issues. The ABC announced in December 2010 that the state-based current affairs program ''Stateline'' would be folded into a new '' 7.30'' brand from March 2011. The change saw ''7.30'' extended to five nights a week, although Friday editions continue to be presented locally and focus on state affairs. 891 ABC Adelaide
ABC Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5AN) is the ABC Local Radio station for Adelaide. It is broadcast at 891 kHz on the AM band. It is also available on Digital TV in Adelaide. History 5AN started transmitting on 15 October 1937 with equipment located in the central telephone exchange, and a radio mast located in Post Office Place. The station transmitter moved to Brooklyn Park, already the site of 5CL's transmitter, on 4 May 1944. The radio mast was moved from the east side of the building to the south side in 1952 to make way for a road to the projected new airport. The proximity of the transmitter site to the airport was inconvenient for both operations, so a new transmitter site was built in open fields at Pimpala, at the corner of Sherriffs and Hillier Roads, Reynella, and was opened on 20 September 1961 by the Postmaster-General C W Davidson. NWS is an Australian television station based in Adelaide, Australia. It is owned-and-operated by the Nine Network. The station callsign, ''NWS'', is an initialism of The NeWs South Australia. History Origins NWS-9 was the first television broadcaster in Adelaide, beginning on 5 September 1959 from their Tynte Street studios. ''Nine News'' (stylised ''9News'') is the national news service of the Nine Network in Australia. Kate Collins (born 7 April 1986 in Mount Gambier, South Australia) is an Australian journalist. Collins currently presents '' Nine News Adelaide'' with Brenton Ragless. Career Collins studied at Norwood Morialta High School, and later the University of Adelaide, and the University of South Australia. She has also worked as a weekend newsreader at Austereo Radio. She began training as a presenter at C31 Adelaide. She joined NWS 9 in Adelaide in 2006 as a general reporter for '' Nine News'', and in 2007 began acting as fill-in news presenter on weekends.
