Michael Scot
Michael Scot (Latin: Michael Scotus; 1175 – ) was a Scottish mathematician and scholar in the Middle Ages. He was educated at Oxford and Paris, and worked in Bologna and Toledo, where he learned Arabic. His patron was Frederick II of the Holy Roman Empire and Scot served as science adviser and court astrologer to him. Scot translated Averroes and was the greatest public intellectual of his day. Early life and education Scot was born somewhere in the border regions of Scotland. He studied first at the cathedral school of Durham and then at Oxford and Paris, devoting himself to philosophy, mathematics, and astrology. It appears that he had also studied theology and become an ordained priest, as Pope Honorius III wrote to Stephen Langton on 16 January 1223/4, urging him to confer an English benefice on Scot, and nominated Scot as archbishop of Cashel in Ireland. Michael Scott Rohan
Michael Scott Rohan (22 January 1951 – 12 August 2018) was a Scottish fantasy and science fiction author and writer on opera. He had a number of short stories published before his first books, the science fiction novel '' Run to the Stars'' and the non-fiction '' First Byte''. He then collaborated with Allan J. Scott on the nonfiction ''The Hammer and The Cross'' (an account of Christianity arriving in Viking lands, not to be confused with Harry Harrison's similarly themed novel trilogy of the same name) and the fantasy novels ''The Ice King'' and '' A Spell of Empire''. Rohan is best known for the trilogy '' The Winter of the World'', set in the Ice Age. Michael Scott was the founder of the London Opera Society. In his role as the society's sole artistic director, he brought to London Marilyn Horne, Joan Sutherland, and Boris Christoff. He was also responsible for introducing Sherrill Milnes, Ruggero Raimondi, and Montserrat Caballé. He was a highly regarded expert in the field of opera with an extensive knowledge of the history of vocal music, and his books include volumes 1 and 2 of ''The Record of Singing'' and ''The Great Caruso''. In 1992, he also wrote ''Maria Meneghini Callas'', being one of the few Maria Callas biographers to have seen her frequently on stage in her prime. He was also a contributor to ''Opera News''. Mike Scott is the bassist of Phinius Gage and vocalist from Lay It On The Line. He had released three solo acoustic folk punk albums and writes for long running punk zine Punktastic. He has also been in Brighton Pop Punks River Jumpers and UK82 punks Anti-Establishment. He actively promotes animal rights and is vegan. Scott played his first solo show in 2007, after five years as bassist for Phinius Gage. He recorded a split 7-inch with Kevin Seconds of 7 Seconds and has recorded three solo albums. Since January 2012, Scott has also performed vocals in hardcore punk band Lay it on the Line and this has become his main project. The band are notable for their choice of subjects - releases are concepts based on murders and deaths of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries - including the murder of Scott's friend Ben Gardner in 2009, which is the subject of the band's song "Therapia Lane". Michael John Christopher Scott (8 December 1932 – 30 May 2008) was a British television producer and presenter. He is best remembered for his TV talk show, ''The Time, The Place'' and his work as a reporter on ''World in Action''. Scott was born in London and educated at the Latymer School, Edmonton, London, and Clayesmore School in Dorset. He served as a second lieutenant in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps during his national service. After leaving the Army, Scott worked as a salesman for Unilever before becoming a stage hand at the Royal Festival Hall. Scott gained an Equity card and went on to appear as an extra in films such as '' Above Us the Waves'' and ''The Quatermass Xperiment''.
