Mike Scott (broadcaster)
Michael John Christopher Scott (8 December 1932 – 30 May 2008) was a British television producer and presenter. He is best remembered for his TV talk show, ''The Time, The Place'' and his work as a reporter on ''World in Action''. Scott was born in London and educated at the Latymer School, Edmonton, London, and Clayesmore School in Dorset. He served as a second lieutenant in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps during his national service. After leaving the Army, Scott worked as a salesman for Unilever before becoming a stage hand at the Royal Festival Hall. Scott gained an Equity card and went on to appear as an extra in films such as '' Above Us the Waves'' and ''The Quatermass Xperiment''. In 1955, Scott joined the Rank Organisation as a trainee cameraman before moving to Granada Television as a floor manager in 1956. The Time, The Place
''The Time, The Place'' was a British audience participation talk show that was produced by a number of different ITV companies, and broadcast live on ITV from 1987 to 1998. ''TTTP'' was presented by Mike Scott from 1987 to 1993 and by John Stapleton from 1991 to 1998. Henry Kelly also presented the programme for a period before Stapleton took over full time. Format The program was developed as ITV's competition to the BBC's ''Kilroy'' morning discussion show which premiered in 1986. It differed from ''Kilroy'' in that ''Kilroy'' delved into more political and current event related issues, while ''TTTP'' focused on human interest topics. The programme toured the country and came from the various ITV regional studios, including Aberdeen after the Piper Alpha disaster. Towards the end of its run, the programme came from London at least three days a week to save money. ''Above Us the Waves'' is a 1955 British war film about human torpedo and midget submarine attacks in Norwegian fjords against the German battleship ''Tirpitz''. Directed by Ralph Thomas, it is based on two true-life attacks by British commando frogmen, first using Chariot manned torpedoes in Operation Title in 1942, and then X-Craft midget submarines in Operation Source in 1943. Filmed at Pinewood Studios, England, with outdoor scenes in Guernsey, some of the original war equipment was used in the film. Granada Television
ITV Granada, formerly known as Granada Television, is the ITV franchisee for the North West of England and Isle of Man. From 1956 to 1968 it broadcast to both the north west and Yorkshire but only on weekdays as ABC Weekend Television was its weekend counterpart. The Quatermass Xperiment
''The Quatermass Xperiment'' (a.k.a. ''The Creeping Unknown'' in the United States) is a 1955 British science fiction horror film from Hammer Film Productions, based on the 1953 BBC Television serial ''The Quatermass Experiment'' written by Nigel Kneale.
