Michael Merrick Long (11 October 1947 – 17 April 1991) was an Australian actor on stage, television and movies, as well as voice-only. He appeared in early roles Matlock Police, Homicide, Division 4, Bluey. He starred in the 1971 Australian stage production of '' Conduct Unbecoming'' as Subaltern Millington. His television credits included: ''Cop Shop'', ''Prisoner'' (as Mick O'Brien), '' Taurus Rising'' (as Sam Farrer), '' Sons and Daughters'' (as Stephen Morrell) and '' Richmond Hill'' (as Craig Connors). ''Richmond Hill'' is an Australian television soap opera made in 1988 by the Reg Grundy Organisation for the Ten Network. It was devised by Reg Watson who also created ''Neighbours''. It debuted on 27 January 1988 in a two-hour episode on Network 10 at 7.30pm. The series was only moderately successful and was cancelled on 22 June 1988. A total of 91 episodes were produced. Synopsis Whereas ''Neighbours'' was set in Melbourne, this series was set in a small fictional Australian country town near Sydney and most of the scenes revolved around the local police station, a real estate agency, and the pub. The serial drew comparisons to the hugely popular Seven Network soap operas, ''A Country Practice'' and ''Cop Shop''. ''Careful, He Might Hear You'' is a 1983 Australian drama film. It is based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Australian-American author Sumner Locke Elliott. Plot The film stars Wendy Hughes and Robyn Nevin as two sisters who are locked in a custody battle over their young nephew, PS, played by Nicholas Gledhill. PS has been raised by his aunt Lila (Nevin) and her husband George since his mother died soon after his birth. When Lila's richer sister Vanessa (Hughes) returns from overseas, she seeks custody of PS, citing the opportunities she can give him. Production There had long been interest in making a film out of the novel. Squizzy Taylor
Joseph Theodore Leslie "Squizzy" Taylor (29 June 1888 – 27 October 1927) was an Australian gangster from Melbourne. He appeared repeatedly and sometimes prominently in Melbourne news media because of suspicions, formal accusations and some convictions related to a 1919 gang war, to his absconding from bail and hiding from the police in 1921–22, and to his involvement in a robbery where a bank manager was murdered in 1923. Taylor enjoyed a fearsome reputation in 1920s Melbourne. A "spiv", described as the Australian equivalent of the 'American bootleggers', his crimes ranged from pickpocketing, assault and shopbreaking to armed robbery and murder. He also derived income from sly-grog selling, two-up schools, illegal bookmaking, extortion, prostitution and, in his later years, is believed by some to have moved into cocaine dealing.
