Michael Kawchuk
Michael Kawchuk (April 23, 1931—January 24, 2021) is a former politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 1966 to 1969, sitting as a member of the New Democratic Party. The son of Nicholas Kawchuk and Annie Baran, Kawchuk was educated at the Brandon Agricultural College and the University of Manitoba. He worked as a farmer, and became a director on the Pool Elevator Board and the Manitoba Farmer's Union. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of his local school district. In 1957, he married Nettie Frykas. He was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the provincial election of 1966, defeating Liberal William Paziuk by 64 votes in the rural riding of Ethelbert Plains. Roblin (Manitoba Riding)
Roblin is a provincial electoral division in Manitoba, Canada. Its current incarnation has existed since the 2019 Manitoba general election in Winnipeg's west end. A previous incarnation of the riding existed from 1914 to 1981 and was located in Western Manitoba. The first Roblin riding was created by redistribution in 1914 from parts of Russell and Swan River, eliminated by redistribution in 1979, and formally ceased to exist with the 1981 provincial election. Roblin was located in the province's mid-northwestern region. After its dissolution, most of its territory was incorporated into the new division of Roblin-Russell, with parts also going to Swan River and Dauphin. In 1999, the region was further redistributed as Dauphin—Roblin. Edward Schreyer
Edward Richard Schreyer (born December 21, 1935) is a Canadian politician, diplomat, and statesman who served as Governor General of Canada, the 22nd since Canadian Confederation. Schreyer was born and educated in Manitoba, and was first elected to the province's legislative assembly in 1958. He later moved into federal politics, winning a seat in the House of Commons, but returned to Manitoba in 1969 to become leader of the provincial New Democratic Party (NDP). The party then won that year's provincial election and Schreyer became the 16th premier of Manitoba, aged 33. In 1978 he was appointed Governor General by Queen Elizabeth II on the recommendation of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, to replace Jules Léger, and he occupied the post until succeeded by Jeanne Sauvé in 1984.
