Michael J. Maker
Michael J. Maker (born February 7, 1969) is an American trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses. The son of a trainer, he learned the business from his father then set up his own public stable in 1991. In 1993 he went to work as an assistant to U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas where he remained until going out on his own again in 2003. Mike Maker's most important wins came with Furthest Land in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Hansen who would earn American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt honors, and the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf with Fire At Will. American Turf Stakes
The American Turf Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds run over a distance of miles on turf held annually in early May on the Kentucky Derby day meeting at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky during the spring meeting. History The event was inaugurated on 2 May 1992 as the fourth race on the undercard of the Kentucky Derby day meeting. The event was won by Senor Tomas who run as a Peter Vestal trained entry with Correntino in a time of 1:43.10. The event was sponsored by Crown Royal from 1995 to 1998 and more recently by Ram Trucks from 2011 to 2019. The event was classified as Grade III in 1998. Zulu Alpha (foaled February 8, 2013 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse and the winner of the 2020 Pegasus World Cup Turf. Career Zulu Alpha's first race was on October 20, 2015, at Gowran Park Racecourse in County Kilkenny, Ireland where he came in second. Returning to the United States, he picked up his first win on July 18, 2017, at Indiana Grand Race Course in Shelbyville, Indiana. He won again that month at the same track. Sir Dudley Digges (19 May 1583 – 18 March 1639) was an English diplomat and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1610 and 1629. Digges was also a "Virginia adventurer," an investor who ventured his capital in the Virginia Company of London; his son Edward Digges would go on to be Governor of Virginia. Hansen (foaled April 23, 2009 in Kentucky), nicknamed 'White Lightning' and 'The Great White Hope', is a grey American Thoroughbred racehorse. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf is an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses, run on a grass course at a distance of one mile. It is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the ''de facto'' year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. All Breeders' Cups to date have been conducted in the United States, with the exception of the 1996 event in Canada. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile is a Thoroughbred horse race for 2-year-old colts and geldings raced on dirt. It is held annually in late October or early November at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships.
