Michael Hobson
Michael Zametkin Hobson (December 8, 1936 – November 12, 2020) was an American publisher who was an executive vice president for Marvel Comics. Life and career Hobson was born on December 8, 1936, and adopted on February 13, 1937, by a single woman, Laura Z. Hobson, future author of ''Gentleman's Agreement'' (1947) and other novels. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard College, Michael Hobson began his career at Little, Brown and Company in Boston, Massachusetts. After stints at ''Publishers Weekly'' and as a literary agent at William Morris, Hobson joined the Scholastic Publishing Company. He worked in various positions at Scholastic, ultimately as publisher of its paperback book clubs. Hobson then joined Marvel Comics as executive vice president. He was responsible for editorial, marketing, distribution and production of Marvel's comics, magazines and graphic novels. Cracked (magazine)
''Cracked'' was an American humor magazine. Founded in 1958, ''Cracked'' proved to be the most durable of the many publications to be launched in the wake of ''Mad'' magazine. In print, ''Cracked'' conspicuously copied ''Mad''s layouts and style, and even featured a simpleminded, wide-cheeked mascot, a janitor named Sylvester P. Smythe on its covers, in a manner similar to ''Mad''s Alfred E. Neuman. Unlike Neuman, who appears primarily on covers, Smythe sometimes spoke and was frequently seen inside the magazine, interacting with parody subjects and other regular characters. A 1998 reader contest led to Smythe finally getting a full middle name: "Phooey." An article on Cracked.com, the website which adopted ''Crackeds name after the magazine ceased publication, joked that the magazine was "created as a knock-off of ''Mad'' magazine just over 50 years ago", and it "spent nearly half a century with a fan base primarily people who got to the store after ''Mad'' sold out." Parachute Press is a division of Parachute Publishing, a packager of book series for children and teenagers. The four women listed as the company's principals are all themselves authors of children's books (among others), and Jane Stine is married to R. L. Stine. The press first gained notice with the 1989 publication of R. L. Stine's ''Fear Street'' series, followed in 1992 by the release of the first of Stine's ''Goosebumps'' series. William Morris
William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, novelist, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre, while he helped win acceptance of socialism in ''fin de siècle'' Great Britain. Morris was born in Walthamstow, Essex, to a wealthy middle-class family.
