''The Advocate'' is Louisiana's largest daily newspaper. Based in Baton Rouge, it serves the southern portion of the state. Separate editions for New Orleans, ''The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate, The Times-Picayune The New Orleans Advocate'', and for Acadiana, ''The Acadiana Advocate'', are published. It also publishes ''gambit'', about New Orleans food, culture, events, and news, and weekly entertainment magazines: ''Red'' in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, and ''Beaucoup'' in New Orleans. History The oldest ancestor of the modern paper was the ''Democratic Advocate'', an anti-Whig Party (United States), Whig, pro-Democratic Party (United States), Democrat periodical established in 1842. Mick Dunne
Michael 'Mick' Dunne (27 May 1929 – 11 August 2002) was an Irish sports journalist who pioneered television coverage of Gaelic games. Birth and childhood He was born 27 May 1929 in Clonaslee, County Laois, one of two sons of Francis Dunne, insurance agent, and Agnes Dunne (née Foley), schoolteacher. Educated at Clonaslee national school and Knockbeg College, County Carlow, he went to work in the etchings library of the Irish Press in 1947, becoming Gaelic games correspondent in 1957. Awards He was central to the negotiations with sponsors to set up the annual GAA All Stars Awards which grew out of the Cuchulainn Awards in the 1960s and were established on an annual basis in 1971. He remained its driving force up to the 1990s, and before his death he was honoured with a special award for his work on the scheme. Michael Dennis Dunne (born October 27, 1962) is an American former professional baseball player who pitched in the Major League Baseball(MLB) from – and in . He was a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Baseball Team. Career Dunne played baseball at Limestone Community High School and Bradley University. He was named 1984 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and graduated from Bradley with a Bachelor in Science in 1985. As part of the United States team in baseball at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he pitched two innings against Italy; the U.S. won the game, 16–1. On June 4, , he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round (7th pick) of the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft, and signed with them. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates along with outfielder Andy Van Slyke and catcher Mike LaValliere for catcher Tony Peña on April 1, 1987 before he could pitch in a big league game for the Redbirds. Michael Dunne (1800 – 20 September 1876) was an Irish Liberal, Whig and Independent Irish Party politician. He was a farmer and lived in Ballymanus, Stradbally, Queen's County, a house and land the family rented from the Grattans. Michael's son William Dunne (1843-1915) was a racehorse trainer and bred two consecutive Irish Derby The Irish Derby (Irish: Dearbaí na hÉireann) is a Group 1 flat horse race in Ireland open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 1 ... winners (Soulouque in 1879 and King of the Bees in 1880) and Cortolvin who went on to win the 1867 Grand National. Stephen Dunne (actor)
Francis Michael Dunne (January 13, 1918– September 2, 1977) was an American actor, radio personality and disc jockey. He was active on television and in films from 1945–73, and was also credited as Steve Dunn, Michael Dunne, Stephan Dunne, and Steve Dunne. Early years Dunne was born in Northampton, Massachusetts. He majored in drama and journalism during his two-and-a-half years at the University of Alabama. While there, he worked at a local radio station and "found himself in love with the business." Radio Dunne worked as an announcer at a radio station in Worcester, Massachusetts, and then went to New York, where he worked as both an announcer and a newscaster.
