Michael Arthur Cleary Order of Australia, AO (born 30 April 1940) is an Australian former rugby union and rugby league and footballer of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and politician. He represented Australia in both rugby codes as well as in athletics making him one of only four Australians who have represented their country at full international level in three different sports. He represented as a Australia national rugby union team, Wallaby in 6 Tests in 1961 and as a Australia national rugby league team, Kangaroo in 8 Tests from 1962. Early life Cleary was born in Randwick, New South Wales and was educated at Waverley College. At aged 17 having set a number of schoolboy sprint records he was offered a sporting scholarship to Stanford University which he declined with his sights set on representing Australia in athletics. Michael Cleary (hurler)
Michael Cleary (born 16 August 1966) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Nenagh Éire Óg and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life Michael Cleary was born in Nenagh, County Tipperary in 1966. He is the only son of Peg and James Cleary, he was educated locally and later worked in the family newsagent and restaurant. He has two sisters. Playing career Club Cleary played his club hurling with his local Nenagh Éire Óg club and enjoyed much success. In the 1980s he won under-16 and under-21 county medals with the club, as well as North Tipperary, county junior medals and a senior League Division medal. In 1995 Cleary won his only senior county title. Nenagh reached the Munster club final in that year but lost to Sixmilebridge of Clare. Michael Cleary (priest)
Michael Cleary (17 May 1934 – 31 December 1993) was an Irish Roman Catholic priest, who also became a radio and TV personality. Described in some sources as a "powerful and charismatic figure" in the Catholic Church in Ireland, he presented a late-night radio phone-in show in Dublin in the 1980s and hosted his own television chat show. He also published a book about maintaining faith in the modern world. After he released two albums of songs, he was nicknamed "The Singing Priest". After his death it was revealed that he had lived with Phyllis Hamilton and fathered two children with her, while she acted as his housekeeper. They lived as a family in secret. Mike Cleary
Mike Cleary (May 19, 1858 in County Laois, Ireland – September 5, 1893 in Belfast, New York) was an Irish-American boxer. Cleary was born in County Laois, and emigrated to the United States. He was known as a quick and "scrappy" fighter. On October 18, 1882 he defeated the Middleweight Champion of America, John Rooke, in 3 rounds. Bridget Cleary
Bridget Cleary (née Boland; ga, Bríd Uí Chléirigh; 19 Feb 1867 – 15 March 1895) was an Irish woman who was murdered by her husband in 1895. She was either immolated or her body was set on fire immediately after her death. The husband's stated motive was his belief that she had been abducted by fairies and replaced with a changeling, which he then killed. The gruesome nature of the case prompted extensive press coverage, and the trial was closely followed by newspapers across Ireland. Early life and marriage Bridget Cleary (née Boland) was born on 19 February 1869 in Ballyvadlea, County Tipperary, Ireland. She married Michael Cleary on 6 August 1887 in the Roman Catholic church in Drangan.
