Overview For this film Lina Sastri was awarded with a David di Donatello for Best Actress and a Silver Ribbon in the same category. The actors Giancarlo Giannini and Leo Gullotta instead won a David di Donatello for Best Actor and a Silver Ribbon for Best supporting Actor. Nanni Loy
Nanni Loy (born Giovanni Loi; 23 October 1925 – 21 August 1995) was an Italian film, theatre and TV director. Specifically, Nanni Loy was Sardinian, and one of several notable Sardinian film makers, including Franco Solinas. Biography Loy was born in Cagliari, Sardinia: his father was Guglielmo Loy-Donà, a lawyer issue from a distinguished Sardinian-Venetian family, and his mother was the noblewoman Donna Anna Sanjust of the Marquesses of Neoneli. Rosetta Loy, an Italian novelist, is his sister-in-law. He became famous for introducing in Italy the candid camera with his show ''Specchio segreto'' (Secret mirror) in 1965. His 1962 film '' The Four Days of Naples'' was nominated for two Academy Awards. It also won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival in 1963. Italy has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since the conception of the award. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was not created until 1956; however, between 1947 and 1955, the Academy presented Honorary Awards to the best foreign language films released in the United States. This is a list of submissions to the 57th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 57th Academy Awards, thirty-two films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Thailand submitted a film for the first time. Antonio Allocca (24 June 1937 – 31 December 2013) was an Italian character actor. Life and career Born in Portici, Naples, Allocca debuted on stage in 1956, then in 1958 he worked with Eduardo De Filippo at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan in the comedy play ''Pulcinella in cerca della sua fortuna per Napoli''. In 1962 he made his television debut in ''Ditegli sempre di sì'' and ''Napoli Milionaria'', both directed by De Filippo. Very active both on stage and in films mainly in character roles, Allocca enjoyed a late success as in 1988, with the role of the professor of Italian in the three seasons of the Italia 1 television series ''I ragazzi della 3ª C''. Remo Remotti (16 November 1924 – 21 June 2015) was an Italian actor, playwright, artist and poet. Life and career Born in Rome, Remotti lost his father at 12 years old, then after graduating in Law he moved to Perù, where he attended an art school and began painting. Following the bankruptcy of the taxi company he had founded in Perù, seven years later he returned to Italy where he married Maria Luisa Loy, the sister of the director and screenwriter Nanni Loy, and started an activity as a playwright, often also directing and acting his comedy plays. He was later requested by some theatrical companies for character roles, and in the late 1970s he began a proficuous film career as a character actor. A painter and a sculptor, some of his works are exhibited at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna. He was also a composer of poems, usually sonnets in Roman dialect. Carlo Croccolo (9 April 1927 – 12 October 2019) was an Italian actor, voice actor, director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Naples, Croccolo began his acting career on the radio and he appeared in more than 100 films since 1949. His debut came in the 1949 film ''The Firemen of Viggiù'' and he made his first television debut in 1956. He was best known for some of his collaborations with Totò mainly throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Croccolo’s international appearance came from the 1996 film '' In Love and War'' directed by Richard Attenborough. He also had an intense theatrical career as he often starred in plays directed by Eduardo De Filippo and Giorgio Strehler.
