Mezőberény
Mezőberény (; german: Maisbrünn; sk, Poľný Berinčok) is a town in Békés county, Hungary. Location Mezőberény is located in the Great Hungarian Plain, 200 km southeast from Budapest. Highway 46, 47 and Budapest-Szolnok-Békéscsaba- Lökösháza high speed (120–160 km/h (75–99 mph)) railway line also cross the town. History The Medieval village of ''Berény'' was ruined due to the Ottoman wars, native Hungarian population fled from the area. It was rebuilt in the 18th century with German, Hungarian and Slovak settlers and was a multiethnic town until the late 19th century, when Germans and Slovaks adopted the Hungarian language. In 1881, the town had a population of 11,368 people, of which 4,267 were Slovaks, 3,860 Hungarians, 2,614 Germans and 627 of other ethnicites. Békés ( hu, Békési járás) is a district in central-northern part of Békés County. ''Békés'' is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. The district is located in the Southern Great Plain Statistical Region. Soma Orlai Petrich
Soma Orlai Petrich, aka Soma Orlay Petrich (October 22, 1822, Mezőberény - June 5, 1880, Budapest) was a Hungarian painter, born to a Serbian father and Hungarian mother. Originally aspiring to become a writer, Orlai Petrich was a pupil of Jakab Marastoni in 1846. He attended Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller's school in Vienna beginning in 1847. He often painted historical themes and in his lithographs he portrayed experiences during the war of independence. He studied under Kaulbach in Munich from 1850. Kolárovo
Kolárovo (before 1948: ''Guta''; hu, Gúta or earlier ''Gutta'') is a town in the south of Slovakia near the town of Komárno. It is an agricultural center with 11,000 inhabitants. A sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties. István Horthy
Vitéz István Horthy de Nagybánya (9 December 1904 – 20 August 1942) was Hungarian regent Admiral Miklós Horthy's eldest son, a politician, and, during World War II, a fighter pilot. Biography In his youth, István Horthy and his younger brother Miklós Jr. were active members of a Catholic Scout troop of the Hungarian Scout Association (''Magyar Cserkészszövetség''), although he was a Protestant. Horthy graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1928. He went to the United States for one year and worked in the Ford factory in Detroit, Michigan. Returning to the Kingdom of Hungary, he worked in MÁVAG's locomotive factory in this occupation.
