Life When Roest became connected with a firm of booksellers in Amsterdam, he acquired a taste for bibliographical studies, and as a result published in 1857 ''Catalogue de livres orientaux''. Roest's best-known work is the ''Catalog der Hebraica und Judaica aus der L. Rosenthal'schen Bibliothek'' (2 vols., Amsterdam, 1875). After Baron George Rosenthal presented his collection to the Amsterdam Library, Roest was appointed custodian of it. The Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (; OBA; English: Amsterdam Public Library) is an organisation of public libraries in Amsterdam, Diemen and Ouder-Amstel in the Netherlands. The first library opened in 1919 at the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. As of 2018, the OBA had 26 branch libraries, 177,000 members, and 1.3 million objects in its collection. History The first public reading room and library of Amsterdam was opened at the Keizersgracht on 8 February 1919.
