The 2nd constituency of Meuse is a French legislative constituency in the Meuse ''département''. Description The 2nd constituency of Meuse covers the northern portion of the department. It includes the town of Verdun infamous for its role in the First World War. From 1988 until 2017 the seat has been held by Jean-Louis Dumont Jean-Louis Dumont (born 6 April 1944 in Jonville-en-Woëvre) is a member of the National Assembly of France. Meuse () is a department in northeast France, named after the River Meuse. Meuse is part of the current region of Grand Est and is landlocked and borders by the French departments of Ardennes, Marne, Haute-Marne, Vosges, Meurthe-et-Moselle, and Belgium to the north. 1997 French Legislative Election
A French legislative election took place on 25 May and 1 June 1997 to elect the 11th National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic. It was the consequence of President Jacques Chirac's decision to call the legislative election one year before the deadline. In March 1993, the right won a large victory in the legislative election and a comfortable parliamentary majority. Two years later, the RPR leader Jacques Chirac was elected President of France promising to reduce the "social fracture". However, the programme of welfare reforms ("Plan Juppé") proposed by his Prime Minister Alain Juppé caused a social crisis in November and December 1995. Ecology Democracy Solidarity (french: Écologie Démocratie Solidarité) was a centre-left parliamentary group in the National Assembly of France. It was formed in May 2020 by members of La République En Marche!, a liberal parliamentary group. After losing three members in the span of two months, the group was forcibly dissolved in October 2020 because it didn’t have enough members. It then became The New Democrats. History On 8 May 2020, Ecology Democracy Solidarity was announced as a new parliamentary group, planned to launch on 1 June 2020. Renaissance (RE), previously known as La République En Marche ! (frequently abbreviated LREM, LaREM or REM; translated as "The Republic on the Move" or "Republic Forward"), or sometimes called simply En Marche ! () as its original name, is a liberal political party in France. Émilie Cariou
Émilie Cariou (born 14 October 1971) is a French politician who served as a member of the French National Assembly for Meuse's 2nd constituency from 2017 to 2022. She was elected as a member of La République En Marche!, but left the party and in May 2020, she was one of the 17 initial members who formed the short-lived Ecology Democracy Solidarity group. Later in 2020, she joined some of these deputies in starting The New Democrats. Early career Cariou spent most of her career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, known as Bercy. At Bercy, she took part in the tax audit operations of major French industrial and banking groups within the National and International Audits Department (DVNI), then joined the Tax Legislation Department. 2017 French Legislative Election
Legislative elections in France were held on 11 and 18 June 2017 (with different dates for voters overseas) to elect the 577 members of the 15th National Assembly of the Fifth Republic.
