Metropoolregio Eindhoven
The ''Metropoolregio Eindhoven'' (MRE; en, Eindhoven Metropolitan Region, italics=no), until 1 January 2014 the ''Samenwerkingsverband Regio Eindhoven'' (SRE; en, Cooperative union for the Region of Eindhoven, italics=no), is a regional governmental agency for the city region of Eindhoven, Netherlands. The MRE comprises 21 municipalities in the Eindhoven agglomeration, with a total area of 1,457.81 square kilometres. The region has nearly three quarters of a million inhabitants and some 35,000 companies (employing over 330,000 people). Organizational structure The MRE is a city region, which means that it is primarily a cooperation of municipalities (it also means that the MRE mandatorily carries out certain tasks for the municipalities, in the form of a joint administration). Gemert-Bakel () is a municipality in the southern Netherlands. Castle In the centre of Gemert stands a castle of which the oldest parts date back to the Late Middle Ages, although it has been rebuilt a couple of times. It was founded by German knights who lived in the castle for several hundred years, however these days it is occupied by monks and nuns. The predecessor of this castle was a motte-and-bailey located further to the west and was discovered in 1995. It is said that the townfounder Diederik van Gemert lived here. Asten () is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands. It is home to the Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry and also a carillon museum. Eersel () is a municipality and a town in southern Netherlands in the province of North Brabant. Eersel is situated in the Campine (Kempen) area. Eersel is part of the Acht Zaligheden (Eight Beatitudes) and known for its attractive market. This market, together with the Hint, has been declared a protected village on October 19, 1967.
