Metropolitan Copenhagen
The Copenhagen metropolitan area or Metropolitan Copenhagen ( da, Hovedstadsområdet, , literally "The Capital Area") is a large commuter belt (the area in which it is practical to commute to work) surrounding Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. It includes Copenhagen Municipality, Frederiksberg and surrounding municipalities stretching westward across Zealand. It has a densely-populated core surrounded by suburban settlements. The metropolitan area has several current definitions and also some historical, now defunct, definitions. The most widely accepted is the area which is strategically managed by the Finger Plan. Copenhagen County
Københavns Amt () is a former county (Danish, ''Amt (subnational entity), amt'') on the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. It covered the municipalities in the metropolitan Copenhagen area, with the exception of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. Effective January 1, 2007, the county was abolished and merged into Region Hovedstaden (i.e. ''Copenhagen Capital Region''). Øresund
Øresund or Öresund (, ; da, Øresund ; sv, Öresund ), commonly known in English as the Sound, is a strait which forms the Danish–Swedish border, separating Zealand (Denmark) from Scania (Sweden). The strait has a length of ; its width varies from to . It is wide at its narrowest point between Helsingør in Denmark and Helsingborg in Sweden. Region Zealand
Region Zealand ( da, Region Sjælland) is the southernmost administrative region of Denmark, established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. Zealand Region has 17 municipalities. Geography Zealand Region consists of the former counties of Roskilde, Storstrøm, and Vestsjælland. Stevns Municipality
Stevns is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland on the southeast coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 22,782 (1 January 2019). The municipality covers most of Stevns Peninsula. The third largest town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hårlev. Roskilde Municipality
Roskilde municipality ( da, Roskilde kommune) is a municipality in Region Sjælland, 30 km west of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in east Denmark. The biggest city is Roskilde, the municipality covers an area of 212 km², and it has a total population of around 90,000 (2022). Its current mayor is Tomas Breddam. Lejre Municipality
Lejre Municipality is a municipality in Region Zealand. The current municipality was established on 1 January 2007 as a result of Municipalities of Denmark#Municipal Reform 2007, ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), merging the former Lejre Municipality (1970–2006), Lejre Municipality with Bramsnæs, Bramsnæs Municipality and Hvalsø, Hvalsø Municipality to form a new Lejre Municipality. 28 September 2016 Carsten Rasmussen took over as mayor from Mette Touborg, who was leaving for a new job. Køge Municipality
Køge Municipality () is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') approx. 40 km southwest of Copenhagen. The municipality covers an area of 255 km² (98 sq. miles), and has a total population of 60,675 (2019). Greve Municipality
Greve Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') about 21 km south-west of Copenhagen in Region Sjælland on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 60 km², and has a total population of 47,773 (2008). The site of its municipal council is the town of Greve Strand. It serves primarily as a residential municipality, functioning as a suburb for the larger Copenhagen area.
