The Metrohrad () is an extensive underground shopping mall at Bessarabska Square, Kyiv, Ukraine. Overview The underground mall is located in the central part of Kyiv and stretches from the Lva Tolstoho Square to the Bessarabska Square along the Velyka Vasylkivska Street. It has two levels and an area of 20,000 sq meters. Shopping Mall
A shopping mall (or simply mall) is a North American term for a large indoor shopping center, usually anchored by department stores. The term "mall" originally meant a pedestrian promenade with shops along it (that is, the term was used to refer to the walkway itself which was merely bordered by such shops), but in the late 1960s, it began to be used as a generic term for the large enclosed shopping centers that were becoming commonplace at the time. Bessarabska Square
The Bessarabska Square ( uk, Бессарабська площа, ''Bessarabs'ka ploscha'') is a square located at the southwest end of Khreshchatyk, the main thoroughfare of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It is located in the city's Shevchenkivskyi District (district), at the busy intersection of Khreshchatyk, Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, Velyka Vasylkivska Street, and the Krutyi Descent streets. Until the late 1840s, the square was located on the outskirts of town, where immigrants from Bessarabia in the southern regions of Ukraine would come to sell their products. Lva Tolstoho Square
Square of Ukrainian Heroes ( uk, Площа Українських Героїв, translit=Ploshcha Ukrainskykh Heroiv), is a city square in Kyiv, Ukraine formed by a triangle shaped intersection of three streets: Velyka Vasylkivska, Hetmana Pavla Skoropadskoho and Yevhena Chykalenka. The square gives its name to the Square of Ukrainian Heroes station, of the Kyiv Metro. The square is a tripoint where Pecherskyi District, Shevchenkivskyi District and Holosiivskyi District meet. It was laid out at some point during the second half of the 19th century, originally unofficially known as Shuliavka Square from the erstwhile name of Skoropadskoho Street which led to a village of that name outside the city. Ploshcha Lva Tolstoho (Kyiv Metro)
Ploshcha Lva Tolstoho ( uk, Площа Льва Толстого, ) is a station on Kyiv Metro's Obolonsko–Teremkivska Line. The station was opened on 19 December 1981, and is named after the writer Leo Tolstoy (who visited Kyiv only once). It was designed by N.A. Levchuk and V.B. Zhezheryn. The station is located deep underground and consists of a central hall with arcades in the walls. The central hall has been covered with orange-coloured marble and is lit by chandeliers and decorative lamps placed on the walls. Passenger tunnels connect the station to the Leo Tolstoy Square and another street. The station forms a station complex with a transfer tunnel with the adjoining Palats Sportu station on the Syretsko-Pecherska Line. The Besarabsky Market ( uk, Бесарабський ринок, ''Besarabs'kyi rynok''), also referred to as the Besarabka ( uk, Бесарабка), is an indoor market located in the center of Kyiv on the Bessarabska Square at the southwest end of the city's main thoroughfare, the Khreshchatyk. Constructed from 1910 to 1912 to a design of Polish architect Henryk Julian Gay, the market features of market space. Khreshchatyk ( uk, Хрещатик, ) is the main street of Kyiv, Ukraine. The street has a length of . It stretches from the European Square (northeast) through the Maidan and to Bessarabska Square (southwest) where the Besarabsky Market is located. Along the street are the offices of the Kyiv City Council which contains both the city's council and the state administration, the Main Post Office, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the State Committee of Television and Radio Broadcasting, the Central Department Store (TsUM), the Ukrainian House, and others.
