Mestalla Stadium ( es, Estadio de Mestalla , ca-valencia, Estadi de Mestalla ) is a football stadium in Valencia, Spain. The stadium is the home of Valencia Club de Fútbol and has a capacity of 48,600 seats, making it the 8th-largest stadium in Spain, and the largest in the Valencian Community. The stadium's name originates from the historic irrigation canal of Mestalla, which was originally outside the south stand of the stadium and had to be jumped over in order to get to the ground. The North Stand of the stadium is known for its very steep section. History The Estadio Mestalla was inaugurated with a friendly match on 20 May 1923 between Valencia CF and Levante UD. Nou Mestalla
Nou Mestalla () is a partially built football stadium in Valencia, Spain, intended as a replacement for Valencia CF's current stadium, Estadio Mestalla. The basic concrete structure of the stadium was built between August 2007 and February 2009, but work was then halted for financial reasons. The design was revised in 2013 with a reduced capacity. The stadium architects are Reid Fenwick Asociados and ArupSport, and the cost is estimated between €250 million and €300 million. The design features a futuristic exterior, clad in aluminium and an interior of wood. It is being built on the site of a former factory in the neighbourhood of Benicalap. 1936 Copa Del Presidente De La República Final
The 1936 Copa del Presidente de la República Final decided the winner of the 1936 Copa del Presidente de la República, the 36th staging of Spain's premier football cup, now known as the Copa del Rey. The final was the last one before the tournament was cancelled due to the Spanish Civil War until 1939, and therefore the last one under the "Copa del Predidente de la República" name. In the match, held on 21 June at the Mestalla in Valencia, Real Madrid (then known as Madrid FC for political reasons) defeated FC Barcelona 2-1 in the first ''El Clásico'' final. It was Real Madrid's 7th title in their 15th final, while Barcelona appeared for the 16th time and were denied their 13th title. The match is remembered for the "impossible save" by Madrid goalkeeper Ricardo Zamora, which denied Barcelona's Josep Escolà from scoring a last-minute equaliser. 1982 World Cup
The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy, who defeated West Germany 3–1 in the final, held in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the capital, Madrid. It was Italy's third World Cup title, but their first since 1938. The defending champions, Argentina, were eliminated in the second round (finishing third and last in their group).
