Mesopotamian Social Sciences Academy
The Mesopotamian Social Sciences Academy is a co-educational university in Qamishli, a city in ''de facto'' autonomous region, the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria. The academy opened in 2013 offering classes in criticism and self-criticism, the democratic system and Kurdish language. The school year has three terms, lasting 3-4 months each. The curriculum consists mainly of history and sociology classes. Jineoloji is also taught there. Teaching occurs mainly in Kurdish. There was a book donation drive organised early in the life of the university, which, amongst others, was donated to by AK Press. De Facto
''De facto'' ( ; , "in fact") describes practices that exist in reality, whether or not they are officially recognized by laws or other formal norms. It is commonly used to refer to what happens in practice, in contrast with ''de jure'' ("by law"), which refers to things that happen according to official law, regardless of whether the practice exists in reality. Democratic Federation Of Northern Syria
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), also known as Rojava, is a de facto autonomous region in northeastern Syria. It consists of self-governing sub-regions in the areas of Afrin, Jazira, Euphrates, Raqqa, Tabqa, Manbij and Deir Ez-Zor. The region gained its de facto autonomy in 2012 in the context of the ongoing Rojava conflict and the wider Syrian Civil War, in which its official military force, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has taken part. Jineology () is a form of feminism and of gender equality advocated by Abdullah Öcalan, the representative leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the broader Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) umbrella. The Kurdish Studies Network (KSN) is "a global research network" for scholars working within the field of Kurdish studies. It was established in 2009 by Welat Zeydanlıoğlu, a Kurdish researcher and academic based in Sweden. University Of Afrin
Afrin University ( ku, Zanîngeha Efrînê) was an unrecognized university in the city of Afrin in northern Syria, when Afrin was a part of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was the second university to open in the AANES (after the Mesopotamian Social Sciences Academy which opened ten months before) and the first university to open in the Afrin District. It opened on 26 July 2015 to an intake of students said to be anywhere from 250 to 850. In August of the same year it had 22 professors (who were required to have a master's degree or doctorate) on their staff. Six additional labs (for engineering and medicine) opened at the start of the new term.
