Mersin International Music Festival
Mersin International Music Festival ( tr, Mersin Uluslararası Müzik Festivali), merfest for short, is a music festival held annually in Mersin, Turkey. In addition to Turkish artists, performers from Spain, Italy, United States, Hungary, Germany, France, Russia, Japan and Korea have participated in the festival. History Mersin International Music Festival is a non-governmental project sponsored by private companies, Mersin University, local municipalities and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It was established in 2002 and organized until 2007 by Mersin Cultural Society ( tr, Mersin Kültür Merkezi Derneği). Since 2008, Mersin Art Activities Society ( tr, Mersin Sanat Etkinlikleri Derneği) organizes the event. In 2007, the festival became a member of the European Festivals Association (EFA). Mersin (), also known as İçel, is a large city and a port on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey. It is the provincial capital of Mersin (İçel) Province. It is made up of four municipalities and district governorates: Akdeniz, Mezitli, Toroslar and Yenişehir. As urbanisation continue towards the east, a larger metropolitan region combining Mersin with Tarsus and Adana (the Adana-Mersin Metropolitan Area) is in the making with more than 3.3 million inhabitants. İdil Biret
İdil Biret (born 21 November 1941) is a Turkish concert pianist. Education Biret began her lessons at the age of five with , who had studied under Nadia Boulanger and Alfred Cortot. When she was seven, the Turkish parliament enacted a special law which enabled her to study abroad, studying at the Paris Conservatory in France under the tutelage of Nadia Boulanger. She graduated with three prizes at the age of 15. She continued her education with Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff. Mersin Citrus Festival ( tr, Mersin Narenciye Festivali) is an annual festival held in Mersin, Turkey. Citrus in Mersin economy Citrus is the main crop of Mersin. According to official figures between 2006 and 2009, the total production in Turkey has risen from 3,220,435 tonnes to 3,513,772 tonnes. Ilya Gringolts (russian: Илья́ Алекса́ндрович Гринго́льц ''Il′já Aleksándrovič Gringól′c'') born 2 July 1982 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) is a Russian violinist and composer. Gringolts studied violin in St. Petersburg with Tatiana Liberova and Jeanna Metallidi. He then attended the Juilliard School, and studied violin with Itzhak Perlman for 3 years. From 2001 to 2003, Gringolts was a member of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists programme. Gringolts is currently on the music faculty of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. In addition to the modern violin, he has a continued commitment to period-instrument performance. He founded the Gringolts Quartet in 2008 and plays first violin in the quartet. Bilkent Symphony Orchestra
The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (Bilkent Senfoni Orkestrası in Turkish, also known as BSO) is a major symphony orchestra of Turkey located in Bilkent, Ankara. Denyce Graves (born March 7, 1964) is an American mezzo-soprano opera singer. Early life Graves was born on March 7, 1964, in Washington, D.C., to Charles Graves and Dorothy (Middleton) Graves-Kenner.
