Merivale High School
Merivale High School (abbreviated as MHS, or 'Merivale' to students) is a public high school, located at the intersection of Merivale Road and Viewmount Drive in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (former city of Nepean, Ontario). The school is known for its International Baccalaureate student program, but also runs French Immersion programs and visual art, music, and co-operative education programs. Despite being designed for over two thousand students, Merivale High School's population fell to an all-time low of 650 students for the 2013-14 school year. This is attributed to changing neighbourhood demographics, as well as new schools in the subdivision of Barrhaven. It was announced in October 2016 that Merivale High School would add both grades 7 and 8 to increase student enrollment for the 2017/2018 school year. Merivale Road (Ottawa)
Merivale Road is an arterial road in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It starts at Island Park Drive just north of Highway 417 and continues south until it ends at Prince of Wales Drive in Rideau Glen. South of Clyde Avenue, Merivale is known as Ottawa Road #17, while north of Clyde it is Ottawa Road #63. From Island Park Drive to Carling Avenue the road is as a small collector route, passing the Westgate Shopping Centre. South of Carling Avenue it is a minor arterial road that goes through the Carlington residential neighborhood. It passes just west of the Central Experimental Farm, land owned by the federal Government of Canada. Critics And Awards Program For High School Students
The Cappies (Critics and Awards Program) is an international program for recognizing, celebrating, and providing learning experiences for high school theater and journalism students and teenage playwrights. There are currently 13 Cappies programs in the U.S. and Canada, which range in size from five to 55 participating high schools. Within each program, every participating high school selects three to nine students for a critic team. After receiving training in theater criticism and review writing, they attend plays and musicals at other high schools in their area. They write reviews (of roughly 400 words) on deadline. Volunteer teacher-mentors lead discussions and select the critic-written reviews that are later published by area newspapers, with student bylines. Lucky Stiff
''Lucky Stiff'' is a musical farce. It was the first collaboration for the team of Lynn Ahrens (book and lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (music). The show is based on the 1983 novel ''The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo'' by Michael Butterworth. It was created and performed at Playwrights Horizons off-Broadway in 1988, and won the Richard Rodgers Award for that year. The musical was seen in London's West End in 1997 but has not had a Broadway production. A film version had a limited release in theatres in 2015 but received mostly negative reviews. Productions ''Lucky Stiff'' premiered off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in April 1988, playing for 15 performances. MusicFest Canada, originally established as the Canadian Stage Band Festival (CSBF), is a national educational music festival in Canada. It was founded in 1972 by Robert Richmond (the founding president), Gary Wadsworth, and Paul Miner. The CSBF added vocal and concert band components in 1981 and 1985, respectively. The name was changed to MusicFest Canada, in 1987, embracing the instrumental jazz, concert band and choral/vocal jazz divisions. In 2012, in partnership with the National Arts Centre, they added a 4th orchestra/strings division. MusicFest Canada is an invitation-only event. Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School is a public school in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 2009. Laurentian High School
Laurentian High School was a former Ottawa high school. It was located on Baseline Rd. at the corner of Clyde, in the city's West End. The school opened in 1958. LHS provided education to grade 9 through 12 through an unsemestered curriculum as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education 1958–2005. LHS provided grade 13 from 1961 to 2003. The property is located at one edge of River Ward, with College Ward and Knoxdale-Merivale Ward adjacent. Architecture The project generated some controversy as the Collegiate Board presented a plan that included an auditorium, double gym, and a cafeteria.
