Jesús Merino (born 1965) is a Spanish comic book artist, best known in the American comic industry for his collaborations with penciller Carlos Pacheco. Merino himself raised from the ''Línea Laberinto'' of ''Planeta-DeAgostini'' Spanish publisher, where he drew three mini-series: ''Aníbal Gris'' (1996), ''Jaque Mate'' (1997) and ''Triada Vértice'' (1998). Jerónimo Merino Cob (1769 in Villoviado, Burgos (province), Burgos Province – 1844 in Alençon, France), alias ''El Cura Merino'' (''The Priest Merino'') was a Spanish guerrilla fighter and priest. He was the parish priest in his birthplace when the Peninsular War, War of Spanish Independence began in 1808. After a quarrel with the French military, he fled from his village and led a Spanish guerrilla, guerrilla group that never suffered defeat. King Ferdinand VII rewarded him with a seat in the Valencia's Cathedral#Secular chapter, cathedral chapter but, his rough lifestyle did not adapt to this kind of life (he even piped a fellow), and returned to his village. Ignacio Merino Muñoz (30 January 1817 in Piura – 17 March 1876 in Paris) was a Peruvian painter who spent much of his life in Paris. He specialized in historical and costumbrista works. Biography His father, Don José, was a judge, district administrator and military commander. His mother Doña Micaela, was from an aristocratic family in Trujillo, Peru, Trujillo. At the age of ten, he was sent to study in Paris, where he earned his bachelor's degree and became interested in art. He studied with Raymond Monvoisin and Paul Delaroche, who inspired his interest in history painting. Also as result of Delaroche's influence, he tended to focus on themes from European history, whereas his Peruvian-themed paintings were generally in the costumbrista category.
