''Meril Prothom Alo Awards'' or ''Prothom Alo Awards'' is an annual Bangladeshi awards ceremony honouring cinematic achievements in Bangladeshi Film Industry. The awards are divided into two components, Viewers' Choice and Critics' Choice. The awards were first presented in 1998 and since then the awards are given every year at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC). The 19th Meril Prothom Alo Awards ceremony was held on 20 April 2017 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center. Meril Prothom Alo Awards receive the highest number of viewers among Bangladesh's Awards Ceremonies. Meril Prothom Alo Awards are Bangladesh's equivalent to America's Academy Awards. ''The Daily Prothom Alo'' ( bn, প্রথম আলো) is a daily newspaper in Bangladesh, published from Dhaka in the Bengali language. It is the largest circulated newspaper in Bangladesh. Riaz (actor)
Riaz Uddin Ahamed Siddique (; born 1972), commonly known as Riaz, is a Bangladeshi film actor, producer, and television presenter who has appeared in more than 100 Bengali films in genres ranging from romance to action to comedies. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including three National Film Awards and seven Meril Prothom Alo Awards. He portrayed the famous literary character, Shuvro, created by Humayun Ahmed, in Daruchini Dip. Riaz first appeared onscreen as a side role in filmmaker Dewan Nazrul's social action drama ''Banglar Nayok'' (1995). He began a full-time career in film with a leading role in the highly successful romantic drama ''Praner Cheye Priyo'' (1997). ''Monpura'' ( bn, মনপুরা), is a 2009 Bangladeshi Bengali film, directed by Giasuddin Selim. The film was remade into Indian Bengali in 2010 as ''Achin Pakhi'', which was directed by Anjan Das. ''Monpura'' is a romantic tragedy film set in rural Bangladesh. The shooting took place in various locations, including Dhunat in Bogra, Kushtia and Dhaka. Chanchal Chowdhury plays the role of Shonai. Farhana Mili made her debut in the role of Pori, the daughter of a fisherman.
