Mercuries Tigers
The Mercuries Tigers () were a professional baseball team belonging to Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) between 1990 and 1999. History The Tigers were owned and administered by the local Mercuries Corporation whose then chairman Chen He-dong (陳河東) was a classmate and a close friend of Brother Hotel and Brother Elephants's chairman Hung Teng-sheng (洪騰勝) in the National Taiwan University, and immediately promised to fulfill Hung's wishes to form a Taiwanese professional baseball league in 1988. This team was established accordingly in 1989 and took the now-demolished Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium as its home throughout its history. Because the Mercuries Corporation itself was inexperienced in running sports clubs, in 1988 and 1989 it was mostly Hung Teng-sheng that built up the Tiger's roster as well as managing most business, with Chen He-dong sponsoring the necessary fund. Chinese Professional Baseball League
The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL; ) is the top-tier professional baseball league in Taiwan. The league was established in 1989 and played the first season in 1990. CPBL eventually absorbed the competing Taiwan Major League in 2003. As of the 2023 season, the CPBL consists of six organizations, all of which have teams in the main league and farm league. Professional baseball in Taiwan started with the founding of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in 1989. At its 1997 peak, Taiwan had two leagues and 11 professional teams. The competing Taiwan Major League ran from 1997 until its absorption by the CPBL in 2003. The professional game has had several game-fixing scandals which had led to sharp declines in game attendance. The China Times Eagles () is a defunct professional baseball team belonging to the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) that existed between 1993 and 1997. History Originally formed as an amateur club Black Eagles in 1990, this club was purchased by the China Times Corporation in November 1991 and professionalized in 1992 after absorbing a group of players from the Chinese Taipei national baseball team who just won silver medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics, like its sister team Jungo Bears. Chuck Carr (baseball)
Charles Lee Glenn Carr Jr. (August 10, 1967 – November 12, 2022) was an American Major League Baseball outfielder. Career Carr did not receive much playing time until the 1993 expansion draft saw him play as an original member of the Miami Marlins. Carr topped the National League in stolen bases that year with 58. In an eight-season career, he played in 507 games, had 1,713 at-bats, 254 runs, 435 hits, 81 doubles, seven triples, 13 home runs, 123 RBI, 144 stolen bases, 149 walks, a .254 batting average, .316 on-base percentage, .332 slugging percentage, 569 total bases, 30 sacrifice hits, 10 sacrifice flies, and four Intentional walks. Melvin Mora Diaz (born February 2, 1972) is a Venezuelan-American former professional baseball infielder. He played for the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB). From his debut in 1999 to 2003, Mora was known as a utility player, playing all three outfield positions, shortstop, and second base. Lenin Alberto Picota (born July 23, 1966 in Panama) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played two seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization for the Hanwha Eagles in 2002–2003. During his career, Picota has gone by multiple names, his full name (Lenin) as well as two shortened versions (Len or Leny). Picota — a , right-hander — was a starting pitching prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system who got as high as AAA but never reached the majors. Rafael Urbano Lugo Colina (born August 12, 1962) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a pitcher from 1985 through 1990. Listed at 6' 0" (1.83 m), 185 lb. (84 k), he batted and threw right handed. Born in Punto Fijo, Falcón, Lugo was originally signed by the California Angels organization as a free agent in 1982.
