The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is a subcompact car produced by the German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz as the brand's entry-level vehicle. The first generation (internally coded W168) was introduced in 1997, the second generation (W169) in late 2004 and the third generation (W176) in 2012. The fourth generation model (W177), which was launched in 2018, marked the first time the A-Class was offered in the United States and Canada. This fourth generation A-Class is also the first to be offered both as a hatchback (W177) and sedan (V177). Originally manufactured as a five-door hatchback in 1997, the second generation W169 introduced a three-door hatchback. Having grown by since the original model, the 2012 third generation A-class was longer than the first-generation B-class. The Mercedes-Benz W201 was the internal designation for the Mercedes 190 series sedans, a range of front-engine, rear drive, five passenger, four-door sedans manufactured over a single generation, from 1982 to 1993 as the company's first compact class automobile. The Mercedes-Benz OM668 engine is a diesel inline-four engine manufactured by the Mercedes-Benz division of Daimler AG. It was used in the Mercedes-Benz W168 from 1997 to 2004 and the Mercedes-Benz W414 from 2001 to 2005. Description The OM 668 makes use of the common rail system. Compared to the otto engine M 166 it has 4 valves per cylinder instead of two. Two chain driven overhead camshafts are used. The intake camshaft is driven by a chain, the exhaust camshaft is connected to the intake camshaft with a gear. Another chain drives the oil pump from the crankshaft. In an internal combustion engine, a supercharger compresses the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement. The current categorisation is that a supercharger is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered (usually by a belt from the engine's crankshaft), as opposed to a turbocharger, which is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gasses. The Mercedes-Benz M112 engine is a gasoline-fueled, 4-stroke, spark-ignition, internal-combustion automobile piston V6 engine family used in the 2000s. Introduced in 1998, it was the first V6 engine ever built by Mercedes. A short time later the related M113 V8 was introduced.
