Charles Menzies (Royal Marines Officer)
General Sir Charles Menzies, (12 May 1783 – 22 August 1866) was a senior Royal Marines officer. Although he became a respected soldier, fighting with Horatio Nelson in the Napoleonic Wars and later rising to the rank of general before becoming aide de camp to Queen Victoria, Menzies is best remembered for the founding of Newcastle, New South Wales and the successful commencement of its settlement between the age of 21 and 22. James Menzies (Wisconsin Politician)
James Menzies (September 3, 1830 – March 22, 1913) was a Scottish American farmer and politician. Born in Newtown of Tullymet, Perthshire, Scotland, Menzies emigrated to the United States in 1841 and settled in the town of Harmony, Rock County, Wisconsin Territory. He lived in Dane County, Wisconsin for seven years before returning to the town of Harmony and was a farmer. He was chairman of the Harmony Town Board and served on the Rock County Board of Supervisors. Menzies also served as the town superintendent of public schools. James Alexander Robertson Menzies
James Alexander Robertson Menzies (21 February 1821 – 18 August 1888) was the first superintendent of the Southland Province in New Zealand from 3 August 1861 to November 1864, during its breakaway from Otago Province (1861 to 1870). He continued serving on the Provincial Council after his superintendency ended. During Menzies' tenure as superintendent, two railways projects were undertaken, a railway to link Invercargill to the port at Bluff and a wooden railway to Winton. The former is now known as the Bluff Branch, while the latter was upgraded to the standards of a normal railway and extended to ultimately form the Kingston Branch. Menzies served on the Legislative Council for 30 years, from 1858 until his death in 1888, and promoted the interests of Southland. Ivan "Jimmy" Menzies (1896 – 19 April 1985) was an English singer and actor, best known for his performances in the comic baritone roles of the Savoy Operas with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in Britain in the 1920s and the J. C. Williamson Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company in Australia the 1930s and 1940s. Hugh Menzies (4 September 1857 – 13 February 1925) was an Australian politician representing the electoral district of Stawell in the Victorian Legislative Assembly between 1902 and 1904 as a Ministerialist member. He served as Mayor of the Shire of Stawell from 1895 to 1896. He was the older brother of James Menzies and uncle of Sir Robert Menzies, the 12th and longest serving Prime Minister of Australia. Sir Frederick Norton Kay Menzies KBE FRSE FRCP LLD (2 November 1875 – 14 May 1949) was a British physician and public health expert. He was Honorary Physician to King George VI. Life He was born in Caernarvon on 2 November 1875, the son of Edith Madeline Kay and her husband, John Menzies, a civil engineer. He was educated at Llandovery College then studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh graduating with an MB ChB in 1899.
