Men's Field Hockey Qualifying Tournaments For The 2012 Summer Olympics
The Men’s field hockey Qualifying Tournament for the 2012 Summer Olympics are qualification tournaments to determine the final three spots for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The qualifying tournaments, which involve 18 teams divided into three groups, with three separate qualifying tournaments, are to be held in India, Ireland and Japan, at different times in 2012. Only the winners of each qualifying tournament earn a berth in the 2012 Summer Olympics. India qualified to Olympics after beating France 8–1 in first qualifying tournament, while South Korea qualified after beating Ireland 3–2 in the second qualifying tournament. South Africa qualified after they beat Japan 2-1 in the third qualifying tournament. The men's field hockey tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics was the 22nd edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held over a thirteen-day period beginning on 30 July, and culminating with the medal finals on 11 August. All games were played at the Riverbank Arena within the Olympic Park in London, United Kingdom. Defending champions Germany won the gold medal for the fourth time after defeating the Netherlands 2–1 in the final. Australia won the bronze medal by defeating Great Britain 3–1. Competition format The twelve teams in the tournament were divided into two pools of six, with each team initially playing round-robin games within their pool. Following the completion of the round-robin, the top two teams from each pool advance to the semi-finals. All other teams play classification matches to determine the final tournament rankings. Tushar Khandker (born 5 April 1985) is an Indian professional field hockey player. He represented India in Men's Hockey during the 2012 London Olympics. Khandker comes from a family of hockey players as his father, uncle and elder brother played the game. Career Tushar Khandker made his debut in for India in 2003 when he was included in the Hockey Australia Challenge Cup in which he scored in his first game. He was a part of the team that won the 2004 Junior Asia Cup and the 2007 Men's senior Asia Cup, thereby becoming the first Indian to be a part of the Asian Cups for all age groups. Tushar is an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Danish Mujtaba
Danish Mujtaba (born 20 December 1988 in Allahabad) is an Indian professional field hockey player. He made his debut for the national team in 2009. He represented India during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He comes from a family of hockey players, including his grandfather Idris Ahmed, his uncle Atif Idris, his father Ghulam Mujtaba and his elder brother Hamza Mujtaba who have played for India. Sardara Singh (born 15 July 1986), sometimes referred as Sardar Singh, is an Indian former professional field hockey player and captain of the Indian national team. He usually plays the center half position. Sardara became the youngest player to captain the Indian team when he led the side at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. Hugo Valentin Paul Genestet (born 2 March 1992) is a French field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for Belgian club Waterloo Ducks and the French national team.
