Membrane-spanning 4A
Membrane-spanning 4A genes are members of the CD20-like family. The MS4A genes are usually organized in a single genomic clusters in mammals, suggestive of gene duplication events. MS4A genes encode a class of four-transmembrane spanning proteins. MS4A genes have been described to act as a specific kind of olfactory receptor in the necklace olfactory sensory neurons in mice (Mus musculus).Greer PL, Bear DM, Lassance JM, Bloom ML, Tsukahara T, Pashkovski SL, Masuda FK, Nowlan AC, Kirchner R, Hoekstra HE, et al. 2016. A family of non-GPCR chemosensors defines an alternative logic for mammalian olfaction. Cell. 165:1734–1748doi: 10.1016/j.cell.2016.05.001 In human (''Homo sapiens'') the members of this family include: * MS4A1 (better known as "CD20") * MS4A2 * MS4A3 Membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''MS4A3'' gene. This gene encodes a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family. Members of this protein family are ...

CD20-like Family
In molecular biology, the CD20-like family of proteins includes the CD20 protein and the beta subunit of the high affinity receptor (biochemistry), receptor for IgE Fc, MS4A2. MS4A2 has a tetrameric protein, tetrameric secondary structure, structure consisting of a single IgE-binding Gs alpha subunit, alpha subunit, a single beta subunit, and two disulfide-linked gamma protein subunit, subunits. It has four putative transmembrane segments and a probable topology where both amino-terminus, amino- and C-terminal, carboxy termini protrude into the cytoplasm. This family also includes LR8 like proteins from humans (TMEM176B), mice and rats. The function of the Homo sapiens, human LR8 protein is unknown although it is known to be strongly gene expression, expressed in the lung fibroblasts. This family also includes sarcospan, a transmembrane protein, transmembrane component of dystrophin-associated glycoprotein. Loss of the sarcoglycan complex and sarcospan alone is sufficient to cause mu ...

MS4A12
B-lymphocyte antigen CD20 or CD20 is expressed on the surface of all B-cells beginning at the pro-B phase (CD45R+, CD117+) and progressively increasing in concentration until maturity. In humans CD20 is encoded by the ''MS4A1'' gene. This gene encodes a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family. Members of this nascent protein family are characterized by common structural features and similar intron/ exon splice boundaries and display unique expression patterns among hematopoietic cells and nonlymphoid tissues. This gene encodes a B-lymphocyte surface molecule that plays a role in the development and differentiation of B-cells into plasma cells. This family member is localized to 11q12, among a cluster of family members. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants that encode the same protein. Function The protein has no known natural ligand and its function is to enable optimal B-cell immune response, specifically against T-independent antigens ...

MS4A7
Membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 7 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''MS4A7'' gene In biology, the word gene (from , ; "... Wilhelm Johannsen coined the word gene to describe the Mendelian units of heredity..." meaning ''generation'' or ''birth'' or ''gender'') can have several different meanings. The Mendelian gene is a b .... This gene encodes a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family, members of which are characterized by common structural features and similar intron/exon splice boundaries and display unique expression patterns in hematopoietic cells and nonlymphoid tissues. This family member is associated with mature cellular function in the monocytic lineage, and it may be a component of a receptor complex involved in signal transduction. This gene is localized to 11q12, in a cluster of other family members. At least four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been observed. References Furthe ...
