This is a list of members of the Victorian Legislative Council, as elected at the 2010 Victorian state election, 2010 state election and at subsequent appointments. : Western Metropolitan Labor MLC Martin Pakula resigned on 26 March 2013. Victorian Legislative Council
The Victorian Legislative Council (VLC) is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria, Australia, the lower house being the Legislative Assembly. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The Legislative Council serves as a house of review, in a similar fashion to its federal counterpart, the Australian Senate. Although, it is possible for legislation to be first introduced in the Council, most bills receive their first hearing in the Legislative Assembly. The presiding officer of the chamber is the President of the Legislative Council. The Council presently comprises 40 members serving four-year terms from eight electoral regions each with five members. With each region electing 5 members using the single transferable vote, the quota in each region for election, after distribution of preferences, is 16.7% (one-sixth). David Davis (Australian Politician)
David McLean Davis (born 8 April 1962) is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council since March 1996, representing East Yarra Province from 1996 until 2006 when it was abolished and the Southern Metropolitan Region from 2006 onwards. He was state Minister for Health from 2010 to 2014 under Premiers Ted Baillieu and Denis Napthine. Early career Davis was born in Millicent, South Australia and studied in Melbourne, Victoria. He was educated at Kingswood College (Box Hill). He studied applied science at the Phillip Institute of Technology (now part of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). South Eastern Metropolitan Region
South-Eastern Metropolitan Region is one of the eight electoral regions of Victoria, Australia, which elects five members to the Victorian Legislative Council (also referred to as the upper house) by proportional representation. The region was created in 2006 following the 2005 reform of the Victorian Legislative Council. The region covers the outer south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and comprises the Legislative Assembly districts of Berwick, Carrum, Clarinda, Cranbourne, Dandenong, Frankston, Mordialloc, Mulgrave, Narre Warren North, Narre Warren South and Rowville. Gavin Jennings
Gavin Wayne Jennings (born 18 April 1957) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1999 to 2020, representing Melbourne Province (1999–2006) and then the South Eastern Metropolitan Region (2006–2020) . He was Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council and Special Minister of State in the Andrews Ministry from 2014 to 2020. He previously served as Cabinet Secretary (1999–2002), Minister for Aged Care (2002–2006), Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (2006–2007), Minister for Community Services (2006–2007), Minister for Environment and Climate Change (2007–2010) and Minister for Innovation (2007–2010) in the Bracks Ministry and Brumby Ministry. Colleen Hartland
Colleen Mildred Hartland (born 1 February 1959) is a former Australian politician, and a Greens member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 2006 to 2018. Early career Hartland is a Western Suburbs resident and activist who rose to prominence as a leader of the community campaign against the storage of toxic chemicals at Coode Island during the 1990s. She was a foundation member of the Hazardous Materials Action group (HAZMAG) and was a member of Environment Effects Committees on West Point Wilson, Point Lillias and the proposed toxic dump at Werribee. Hartland chaired the Maribyrnong Drug Strategy Committee for three years. She was also employed as a social worker by the Western Region Health Centre. Peter Hall (politician)
Peter Ronald Hall (born 27 May 1952) is an Australian retired politician. He was a National member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 2014, representing Gippsland Province (1988–2006) and the Eastern Victoria Region (2006–2014). Early life and education Hall was born and raised in Castlemaine, Victoria. He graduated from Castlemaine High School in 1969 and moved to Melbourne to attend university. He graduated from Monash University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts and completed a Diploma of Education the following year. Football career He showed promise as an Australian rules football player as a young person, being the best and fairest for the Castlemaine Football Club in 1969, at only 17 years of age. Matthew Jason Guy (born 6 March 1974) is an Australian politician. Bernie Finn
Bernard Thomas Christopher Finn (born 14 April 1961) is a former Australian politician who was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Western Metropolitan Region from the election of November 2006 until he lost in the November 2022 election. He was previously the member for the electoral district of Tullamarine in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from October 1992 until September 1999. Andrew Warren Elsbury (born 7 March 1979) is an Australian former politician who represented the Liberal Party in the Western Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Legislative Council. Prior to his election to the Parliament of Victoria he was an Advisor to Senator Michael Ronaldson. Nazih Halim Elasmar (Arabic: نزيه حليم الأسمر) (born 16 April 1953), is a former Lebanese-Australian politician and was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Labor Party between 2006 and 2022. Khalil Eideh
Khalil Eideh (born 8 November 1954) is an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 2006 to 2018, representing the Western Metropolitan Region. Born in Tripoli in Lebanon to Syrian parents, he migrated to Australia, where he became a mail officer with Australia Post (1975–79). From 1987 to 2006 he was the managing director of the Bluestar Logistics Freight company.
