Cec Burgin
Cecil William John (Cec) Burgin (19 May 1923 – 1 November 2003) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1985, representing the electorate of Polwarth. Burgin was born in Horsham, and attended Pimpinio State School and the Ballarat School of Mines, where he studied agricultural engineering. He worked on his family's property at Pimpinio after leaving school, but joined the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. He trained in Canada and England, attaining the rank of flying officer, and served in India and South East Asia. He became a grazier at Port Campbell after the war. He was a Shire of Heytesbury councillor from 1953 to 1963, including a term as shire president in 1960. Peter Collins (Victorian Politician)
Peter Charles Collins (born 7 October 1941) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1976 to 1982, representing the electorate of Noble Park. He served as secretary to Cabinet from 1981 to 1982. Collins was born in Bowness-on-Windermere in England, and he attended Tiffin Boys Grammar School in Kingston. He worked as a dry cleaning salesman, labourer, and in a plastics factory prior to migrating to Australia, and was involved in the first wave of the Ban the Bomb marches. He migrated to Australia in 1963, and worked as an encyclopedia salesman and then as a used car salesman from 1965 to 1972. He opened his own car sales business, Peter Collins Motors, in 1972, operating it until his election to parliament. The electoral district of Werribee is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It has existed in two incarnations, first from 1976 to 2002, and was created again in the 2013 redistribution and came into effect at the 2014 state election. Based on the rapidly growing outer south west suburbs of Melbourne, it takes in areas from Tarneit and Lara. It covers the suburbs of Werribee, Wyndham Vale, and the rural areas surrounding these suburbs to the south and west. Ken Coghill
Kenneth Alistair Coghill (born 10 November 1944 in Mansfield, Victoria) is a former Australian politician. Life and career Educated at Caulfield Grammar School, Coghill studied Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne and worked as a veterinarian before serving on the Wodonga City Council. He entered the Victorian Legislative Assembly as a Labor Party Member for Werribee in the 1979 State elections, and served as the Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 1992. After retiring from Parliament in 1995, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne. He is currently an associate professor at Monash University. Joan Chambers
Joan Heywood Chambers, ''née'' Murray (18 March 1930 – 29 August 2016) was an Australian politician. She was born in Elsternwick to company manager James McNab Murray and Annie Hale Shaw. She attended Ormond State School and Tintern Church of England Girls Grammar School before receiving a Bachelor of Arts (1950) and Diploma of Education (1951) from the University of Melbourne. She became a secondary schoolteacher at Kyabram in 1952, at Hampton in 1953, at Mortlake from 1968 to 1977 and at Ballarat from 1978 to 1979 and from 1982. On 21 November 1953 she married Major John Alexander Chambers, a soldier-turned-farmer; they had six children. Chambers joined the Liberal Party in 1969 and held a number of positions including secretary of the Alfredton branch (1978–81), a member of the federal electorate council for the Division of Wannon, and a member of the state executive (1977–78). Electoral District Of Carrum
The electoral district of Carrum is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It lies in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, covering Bangholme, Bonbeach, Carrum, Carrum Downs, Patterson Lakes, Sandhurst, Seaford and Skye. The seat was created in 1976 and traditionally has had a working class character and has been safe for the Labor Party. However, since the 1990s the area has been gentrifying and the seat was won by the Liberal Party against the trend at the 1996 election. However, the seat was narrowly recovered by Labor due to the Anti-Kennett swing in 1999 and the 'Brackslide' of 2002 reverted the seat to its original safe Labor status. Ian Robert Cathie (24 October 1932 – 25 October 2017) was an Australian politician. Born in Melbourne, to printer George Mitchell Cathie and Sybil Balding, he attended state schools, Wesley College, then the University of Melbourne, where he studied teaching. On 5 January 1957 he married Christine Watson, with whom he had four children; he married again on 3 July 1976 Jean Germain, an industrial nurse. He was president of the Peninsula Victorian Teachers Union in 1959 and taught at Frankston and Mordialloc-Chelsea High Schools, as well as serving on the council of Monash University from 1977 to 1982. In 1964 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as a Labor member for South Eastern Province; he was defeated in 1970, but in 1976 was elected to the Legislative Assembly seat of Carrum, which he held until 1988. Valerie Callister
Valerie Joy Callister (born 16 June 1950) is a former Australian politician. She was born in Leongatha to farmer Herbert Charles Callister and Alma Joyce. She attended local state schools and received a Bachelor of Arts from the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, a Diploma of Education from the State College of Victoria, and a Graduate Diploma in Health Administration from La Trobe University. She worked as a schoolteacher, teaching at Traralgon from 1975 to 1981. She joined the Labor Party in 1976, and in a 1981 by-election was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Morwell. She was briefly unseated on a technicality in 1984, but served until 1988, when she retired.
