Cec Burgin
Cecil William John (Cec) Burgin (19 May 1923 – 1 November 2003) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1985, representing the electorate of Polwarth. Burgin was born in Horsham, and attended Pimpinio State School and the Ballarat School of Mines, where he studied agricultural engineering. He worked on his family's property at Pimpinio after leaving school, but joined the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. He trained in Canada and England, attaining the rank of flying officer, and served in India and South East Asia. He became a grazier at Port Campbell after the war. He was a Shire of Heytesbury councillor from 1953 to 1963, including a term as shire president in 1960. Steve Crabb
Steven Marshall Crabb (born 15 January 1943) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Arbroath in Scotland, the son of Steven Crabb, an RAF warrant officer, and Gertrude. He attended local state schools and joined the Labour Party, of which he was an office-bearer. He emigrated to Australia in June 1966, joining the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society as joint assistant actuary in 1972. He joined the Labor Party and was a member of the federal executive of the Australian Insurance Employees Union from 1966 to 1970 and from 1972 to 1976, serving as vice-president for the latter period. Electoral District Of Mitcham (Victoria)
The Electoral district of Mitcham was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was centered on Mitcham and Blackburn in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Created prior to the 1967 election it was, with one exception, always held by the current government. The one exception was a 1997 by-election which was won by the Labor Party with a massive 16% swing, signaling a revival in the performance of the ALP prior to the 1999 election where they narrowly retained the seat and even more narrowly won government. Mitcham was abolished in 2014 and largely replaced by Ringwood. George Cox (Victorian Politician)
George Henry Cox (born 29 December 1931) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1976 to 1982, representing the electorate of Mitcham, and a member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 1996, representing Nunawading Province. Cox was born in Forbes, New South Wales, and was educated at Shepparton, Warracknabeal, Faraday and Lee St Carlton State Schools, Swinburne Technical School and Box Hill High School. He was a technical representative and laboratory technician for a paint company before entering politics. He was an amateur competitive cyclist from 1949 to 1956, competing in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. Cox was a City of Nunawading councillor from 1966 to 1969 and was campaign manager for Mitcham Liberal MLA Dorothy Goble at the 1970 and 1973 elections. Peter Collins (Victorian Politician)
Peter Charles Collins (born 7 October 1941) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1976 to 1982, representing the electorate of Noble Park. He served as secretary to Cabinet from 1981 to 1982. Collins was born in Bowness-on-Windermere in England, and he attended Tiffin Boys Grammar School in Kingston. He worked as a dry cleaning salesman, labourer, and in a plastics factory prior to migrating to Australia, and was involved in the first wave of the Ban the Bomb marches. He migrated to Australia in 1963, and worked as an encyclopedia salesman and then as a used car salesman from 1965 to 1972. Electoral District Of Carrum
The electoral district of Carrum is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It lies in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, covering Bangholme, Bonbeach, Carrum, Carrum Downs, Patterson Lakes, Sandhurst, Seaford and Skye. The seat was created in 1976 and traditionally has had a working class character and has been safe for the Labor Party. However, since the 1990s the area has been gentrifying and the seat was won by the Liberal Party against the trend at the 1996 election. However, the seat was narrowly recovered by Labor due to the Anti-Kennett swing in 1999 and the 'Brackslide' of 2002 reverted the seat to its original safe Labor status. The 2013 redistribution significantly reshaped the seat, with the seat losing Aspendale, Edithvale and parts of Chelsea to the seat of Mordialloc and gaining Carrum Downs and Sandhurst from the seat of Cranbourne. Ian Cathie
Ian Robert Cathie (24 October 1932 – 25 October 2017) was an Australian politician. Born in Melbourne, to printer George Mitchell Cathie and Sybil Balding, he attended state schools, Wesley College, then the University of Melbourne, where he studied teaching. On 5 January 1957 he married Christine Watson, with whom he had four children; he married again on 3 July 1976 Jean Germain, an industrial nurse. He was president of the Peninsula Victorian Teachers Union in 1959 and taught at Frankston and Mordialloc-Chelsea High Schools, as well as serving on the council of Monash University from 1977 to 1982. In 1964 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as a Labor member for South Eastern Province; he was defeated in 1970, but in 1976 was elected to the Legislative Assembly seat of Carrum, which he held until 1988.
