Richard Brose
Richard Keats Brose (6 May 1897 – 14 May 1969) was an Australian politician. He was born in Colac to law clerk Joseph Frederick Brose and Ellen Elizabeth Catt. He was twice wounded serving with the AIF during World War I, and was a dairy farmer after the war and active in the Returned and Services League and the Country Party. On 20 October 1926 he married Audrey Dare. He served on Deakin Shire Council from 1939 to 1947. In 1944 he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Rodney; although not the endorsed Country Party candidate, he was president of the local branch of the party and joined it in parliament. From 1950 to 1952 he was Minister of Water Supply and Conservation. Bill Divers
William Thomas George Divers (1 September 1896 – 29 June 1978) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1958 to 1970. He was born in Collingwood to brushmaker William Clinton Divers and Annie May Cozens. He attended the local state school and was a child actor until 1910. From 1910 to 1914 he was in the merchant navy; he served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1914 to 1918 during World War I and then returned to the merchant navy until 1920. He was a long-serving official in the Municipal Employees Union from the 1920s, initially as an organiser (1925-1937) and industrial officer (1937-1946). During the 1930s, he clashed with the Australian Workers' Union over their handling of pay disputes for municipal employees. The electoral district of Polwarth is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is located in south-west rural Victoria, west of Geelong, and covers the Colac and Corangamite local government areas (LGA), parts of the Moyne, Golden Plains and Surf Coast LGAs, and slivers of the Ararat and Greater Geelong LGAs, running along the Great Ocean Road taking in Anglesea, Cape Otway, Peterborough, Aireys Inlet, Lorne, Wye River, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell, covering the inland towns of Winchelsea, Colac, Camperdown and Terang along the Princes Highway, and Inverleigh, Cressy, Lismore and Mortlake on the Hamilton Highway, and finally, includes the Otway Ranges and Lake Corangamite. Tom Darcy (Australian Politician)
Thomas Anthony Darcy (18 May 1893 – 27 December 1979) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1958 to 1970, representing the electorate of Polwarth. He was Minister of Water Supply and Minister of Mines in the Bolte government from 1964 to 1967. Darcy was born at Murroon, near Birregurra. He was educated at Murroon State School, and became a farmer and grazier there after leaving school. He served for four years overseas in World War I, in Syria with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, and was a company commander of the Volunteer Defence Corps' 19th battalion in World War II. In his industry, he served as Victorian state president and national vice-president of the Australian Primary Producers Union, and was an employers' representative for the Pastoral and Agricultural Wages Board. Roy Crick
George Roy Crick (3 April 1904 – 19 August 1966) was an Australian politician. He was born at Nurcoung to grazier George Arnold Crick and Mary Cousen Keeping. He attended school at Sunshine and became a carpenter. On 26 June 1927 he married Gladys Sophie Day, with whom he had two children. From 1942 he was an official with the Sheetmetal Workers' Union, and also secretary of the Sunshine branch of the Labor Party. During World War II he was a sergeant in the Volunteer Defence Corps. The electoral district of Gippsland West was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. Leslie Cochrane
Leslie James Cochrane (29 August 1894 – 25 April 1972) was an Australian politician. He was born in East Brighton to gardener David Cochrane and Lucy Harriett Burgess. He moved to Caldermeade with his family at the age of eight, and served with the AIF in World War I on the Western Front, where he was seriously wounded. As a soldier settler he was granted land at Kooweerup, where he became a dairy farmer. In December 1919 he married Ivy Mary Wildes, with whom he had two children. He served on Cranbourne Shire Council from 1930 to 1964, with four terms as president (1935–36, 1946, 1949–50, 1957–58). In 1950 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Country Party member for Gippsland West. He was party whip from 1961 to 1970, when he retired from politics. The electoral district of Melbourne is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It currently includes the localities of Docklands, Carlton, Melbourne, East Melbourne, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Parkville, Newmarket, Kensington and Flemington, and includes Melbourne University. The Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), commonly known as Victorian Labor, is the semi-autonomous Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). The Victorian branch comprises two major wings: the parliamentary wing and the organisational wing. The parliamentary wing comprising all elected party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, which when they meet collectively constitute the party caucus. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the caucus, and party factions have a strong influence in the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. Arthur Clarey
Reynold Arthur Clarey (15 March 1897 – 9 May 1972) was an Australian politician. Born in South Yarra to estate agent Francis William Clarey and Catherine Lawson (his half-brother Percy would also go on to be a prominent politician and unionist), Arthur attended Flemington State School, Melbourne High School and Melbourne University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. He was employed as a clerk with the Victorian Public Service from 1913 to 1920 and with BHP from 1920 to 1947. On 23 September 1940 he married Irene Mary Leech, who died in 1957; he remarried on 1 July 1958 Doris Jane McGinnis, ''née'' Blythe. Clarey joined the Labor Party in 1932, and was later president of the Clerks' Union. In 1955 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Melbourne. He was the auditor of the state branch from 1955 to 1970 and the parliamentary treasury spokesman from 1967 to 1970.
