Melbourne Renegades are an Australian professional men's Twenty20 franchise cricket club based in Melbourne, the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria. They compete in the Australian Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League. The team is coached by David Saker and captained by Nic Maddinson. History Initial seasons (2011–2013) The Renegades' foundation captain was Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald and coached by then Victorian Bushrangers one-day coach, Simon Helmot. In their first season, the Renegades signed local state players such as Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Hodge and Dirk Nannes, along with Pakistani imports Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq. The Renegades struggled in their first season, only winning two games against the Sydney Thunder and the Sydney Sixers respectively. Aaron Finch scored 259 runs, whilst Shahid Afridi took 10 wickets. Big Bash League
The Big Bash League (known as the KFC Big Bash League for sponsorship reasons, often abbreviated to BBL or Big Bash) is an Australian professional club Twenty20 cricket league, which was established in 2011 by Cricket Australia. The Big Bash League replaced the previous competition, the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, and features eight city-based franchises instead of the six state teams which had participated previously. The competition has been sponsored by fast food-chicken outlet KFC since its inception. It is one of the two T20 cricket leagues, alongside the Indian Premier League, to feature amongst the List of sports attendance figures#Top 10 leagues in average attendance, top ten domestic sport leagues in average attendance. Brad Hodge
Bradley John Hodge (born 29 December 1974) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who batted in the middle order, as well as a part-time right-arm off-spin bowler. Hodge was a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, holding the records for the most runs (5,597) and most centuries (20) in Australian interstate one-day matches. He is also Victoria's highest ever run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield (10,474 runs). However, his opportunities to represent Australia were limited to 6 Tests, 25 one-day internationals (ODIs) and 15 T20 Internationals. Glenn Maxwell
Glenn James Maxwell (born 14 October 1988) is an Australian professional cricketer, who represents Australia national cricket team in One Day International and Twenty20 International formats of the game and has played Test cricket for Australia. Maxwell is an all-rounder who bats right handed and bowl off break. He represents Victoria and Melbourne Stars in Australian domestic cricket. His professional cricketing career was launched when he started playing for Victoria in the Twenty20 Big Bash in 2010. Aaron James Finch (born 17 November 1986) is a Australian international cricketer who captains the Australian cricket team in T20I and formerly captained the national team in ODI cricket. Finch currently holds the record for two of the three highest individual scores in Twenty20 Internationals (T20I), his score of 172 against Zimbabwe in July 2018 beating his previous record of 156 against England in 2013. In July 2018, he became the first player to reach 900 rating points on the official International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings. He made his Test debut for Australia in October 2018. Simon Helmot
Simon Helmot (born 12 February 1972) is an Australian cricket coach, who was formerly the coach of the Melbourne Renegades. Simon Helmot began his coaching career early, taking the reins of the Hawthorn-Monash University Cricket Club in Melbourne at 25, while he was still a player. After retiring, Helmot took charge of the Under-19s at the Victorian Institute of Sport and then spent two years coaching the ACT Comets in the Cricket Australia Cup. He returned to Melbourne in 2007 to take up a role as Victoria Bushrangers high performance manager and coached the Australia A side that visited India in 2008. Helmot became an assistant coach under Greg Shipperd at Victoria for the 2008–09 season. Since 2008–09, Helmot has coached the Victorian Bushrangers in the One Day competition. Victorian Bushrangers
The Victoria men’s cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The men’s team, which first played in 1851, represents the state of Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield first-class competition and the Marsh One Day Cup 50-over competition. It was known as the Victorian Bushrangers between 1995 and 2018, before dropping the Bushrangers nickname and electing to be known as simply Victoria in all cricket competitions. Victoria shares home matches between the Melbourne Cricket Ground in East Melbourne and the Junction Oval in St Kilda. Andrew Barry McDonald (born 5 June 1981) is the head Australian cricket coach and former cricketer who played for the Victoria and South Australia cricket teams. He was born in Wodonga, Victoria and currently lives in Geelong, Victoria. He made his Test match debut in Sydney on 3 January 2009, against South Africa. McDonald also represented Australia at under 19 level and has played for the Prime Minister's XI. He is an allrounder who bats right-handed and is a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs.
