Melanesia Cup
The MSG Prime Minister's Cup, formerly known as Melanesia Cup is an association football championship played between the Melanesian countries, it was used (along with the Polynesia Cup) for qualification to the Oceania Nations Cup. The original tournament used a round-robin format involving every team playing each other once at the tournaments location. In 2008, the Wantok Cup was established as a competition between Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Association Football
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. 2022 MSG Prime Minister's Cup
The 2022 MSG Prime Minister's Cup was held from 17–30 September 2022. Vanuatu hosted the competition with all matches being played at the Korman Stadium in Port Vila. The tournament was a resurrection of the Melanesia Cup which has not been held since the year 2000. It was a FIFA Tier-1 tournament. Format The six competing teams are divided into two groups. A total of 10 matches will be played on five matchdays. Matches Group A Group A consists of Papua New Guinea, host Vanuatu, and Vanuatu's development side. 2000 Melanesia Cup
The Melanesia Cup 2000 was the seventh and the last Melanesia-wide tournament ever held. It took place in Fiji and five teams participated: Fiji, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu and served for the third time as an Oceania Nations Cup qualifier. The teams played each other according to a round-robin format with Fiji winning the tournament for the fifth time and qualifying to the Oceania Nations Cup 2000 along with Solomon Islands. However, 3rd place Vanuatu replaced Fiji at the latter Cup due to civil unrest in Fiji following a coup by George Speight, who overthrew Fiji's democratically elected government.
