''Meisterwerk 1'' is a compilation album by My Dying Bride, which features both album tracks and rare recordings. Its companion piece - ''Meisterwerk 2'' - was released the following year. It is the second of four My Dying Bride compilation albums, following 1995's ''Trinity'' and followed by ''Meisterwerk 2'' later the same year and "Anti-Diluvian Chronicles" in 2005. My Dying Bride are an English doom metal band formed in Bradford. Since their inception in 1990, they have released 13 studio albums, three EPs, one demo, one box set, four compilation albums, one live album, and one live CD/DVD release. Along with Anathema and Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride were a forerunner of the death doom metal and gothic metal genres during the early 1990s. These bands comprise "The Peaceville Three" as all were signed to Peaceville Records at the time. History Early years (1990–1992) My Dying Bride was formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, in June 1990, after guitarist Andrew Craighan and drummer Rick Miah co-formed the band after they had split from Abiosis, joining vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe and guitarist Calvin Robertshaw while ending Abiosis. The Angel And The Dark River
''The Angel and the Dark River'' is the third album by the British doom metal, doom/death metal band My Dying Bride. The 1996 re-release contains one bonus track "The Sexuality of Bereavement" and a bonus CD titled ''Live at the Dynamo''. The Live CD was recorded during their appearance at the Dynamo Open Air Festival, Dynamo Festival in 1995. Aaron Stainthorpe's lyrics continued in the vein of ''Turn Loose the Swans'', focusing on religious symbolism and relationship problems. Stainthorpe has said in many interviews that "Two Winters Only" is his favourite My Dying Bride song. Five of the album's six tracks appear on the band's VHS and DVD For Darkest Eyes. Production For the first time in the band's history, guitar player Andrew Craighan was the sole composer of a My Dying Bride record, which was considered “strange” to the guitarist. Jonny Maudling
Jonny Maudling (born Jonathan Maudling) is an English composer, keyboard player and former drummer for the band Bal-Sagoth, keyboardist with the band Kull, former bassist with the unsigned UK thrash band Igniter, and frequent collaborator with the band My Dying Bride. Maudling's primary instruments are Roland synthesizers when playing live. He comes from a musical family and was classically trained on piano from an early age. He has contributed to three My Dying Bride studio albums, provided session orchestration on material by Sermon of Hypocrisy, and played guest keyboards on a full-length release by the Ukrainian metal band Semargl. He composed music for the video game Adellion. Currently Maudling is a producer and engineer, operating his own recording studio called Waylands Forge Studios in Yorkshire, England. Shaun Steels
Shaun 'Winter' Taylor-Steels (born Shaun Steels, 22 August 1970) is a British heavy metal drummer and bassist. Steels, born in Normanton, West Yorkshire, is of Scottish and Norwegian descent on his mother's side of the family. Steels replaced Bill Law in My Dying Bride, and once was a member of Anathema. Like many other metal musicians, he has a pseudonym and adopted the stage name 'Winter'. Shortly before the release of the 2006 album ''A Line of Deathless Kings'', Steels announced his permanent departure from My Dying Bride due to health concerns. In the band's official statement concerning his departure, Steels is quoted as saying, "I would just like to salute MDB for the good times and wish them all well in the future, I feel I am not ready to fulfill the duties in a manner befitting MDB at this time and have decided to stand down. Martin Powell
Martin Powell is an English musician. In 1991, Powell auditioned for the position of bass player in the band My Dying Bride, but was turned down as the band had just filled the position. Upon informing the band he was also a violin and keyboard player, he was hired as a session musician, before becoming the band's permanent violinist and keyboardist. Around 1998, Powell and My Dying Bride parted ways and he joined Anathema, in the role of live keyboardist, only to depart two years later. In 2000, Powell joined the British heavy metal band Cradle of Filth along with drummer Adrian Erlandsson and guitarist Paul Allender after the departure of Les 'Lecter' Smith. The band then went to record the album ''Midian''. The following year, the band released their transitional mini-album '' Bitter Suites to Succubi''. Hamish Glencross
Hamish Glencross is a Scottish guitarist best known for his work with the English metal band My Dying Bride. He also co-founded the short-lived Blackdoom Records with the band's other guitarist, Andrew Craighan. Glencross had a brief acting career before concentrating on music, most notably in the UK children's drama Children's Ward. Prior to joining My Dying Bride, Glencross played guitar for Bradford alternative rock band Driftwood, UK progressive metal band Seer's Tear, and Leeds-based punk/metal band Apocalypso. He was a member of UK doom metal band Solstice playing on their album ''New Dark Age''. Andrew Craighan (born 18 July 1970) is one of My Dying Bride's founding guitarists. Along with Aaron Stainthorpe Aaron Stainthorpe (born 12 November 1968) is an English singer who is the lead vocalist for doom metal band My Dying Bride. In December 2005, it was announced that Stainthorpe would lend his voice and some lyrics to a song with Sarah Jezebel ..., they are the only original members of the band still in the lineup. Aaron Stainthorpe (born 12 November 1968) is an English singer who is the lead vocalist for doom metal band My Dying Bride. In December 2005, it was announced that Stainthorpe would lend his voice and some lyrics to a song with Sarah Jezebel Deva's new band Angtoria. "Original Sin", taken from the band's first album ''God Has a Plan for Us All'', was released in April 2006. Stainthorpe has made other guest appearances on Dominion's ''Interface'' and Disincarnate's ''Dreams of the Carrion Kind''. He also made a narration appearance on Dreambreed's ''Sometime'' mini-album in 1995. In 2021 he was a guest vocalist on the debut album of the romanian doom metal band Olympus Mons. Unreleased Bitterness
"Unreleased Bitterness" is a single by death/doom metal band My Dying Bride. The track contained in this release is an early rehearsal recording of the song "The Bitterness and the Bereavement", which appeared on '' As the Flower Withers''. This 7" was released by a friend of the band with full permission on the Unbridled Voyage label. Only 1,150 copies were produced. It was pressed on a one-sided flexi disc, likely to save costs. In recent years, the manufacturer of the record revealed on the band's message board that he still had a fair few of them "in a box, under the bed", without sleeves.
