Megan Marcks
Megan Leanne Marcks (née Still), OAM (born 19 October 1972) is an Australian former national, Olympic and world champion rower. She is an Olympic and World Champion in the coxless pair who represented Australia at the Olympics in 1992 and 1996. Club and state rowing Marcks was born in 1972 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales. She was selected by the Australian Institute of Sport as a candidate rower (based on physique and aerobic capacity) through their Talent Identification program in 1988, having had no former involvement with the sport, although Marcks had had a successful career as a junior athlete. Australian Institute Of Sport
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is a high performance sports training institution in Australia. The Institute's headquarters were opened in 1981 and are situated in the northern suburb of Bruce, Canberra. Junior World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Junior Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). A rower or coxswain shall be classified as a Junior until 31 December of the year in which he reaches the age of 18. After that date, he shall be classified as an Under 23 rower. During Olympic years it is held at the same location as the Senior World Rowing Championships. The first FISA Youth Regatta was held in 1967 and has been held every year since then, being raised to the status of FISA Junior Champs in 1970 and Junior World Champs in 1985. Many European countries send athletes not up to the standard for World Championships to the Coupe de la Jeunesse. ACT Academy Of Sport
The ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) was launched in 1989. It is an endorsed Australian Olympic Committee and Australian Paralympic Committee National Training Centre and a member of the National Institutes of Network. History The establishment of ACTAS as a pilot program was announced in the Australian Government's budget delivered in August 1988. ACTAS was allocated a budget of $100,000 as part the Community Development Fund. At the time of the announcement, the Australian Government was responsible for sport development in the Australian Capital Territory. Sport Australia Hall Of Fame Awards
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame was established on 10 December 1985 to recognise the achievements of Australian sportsmen and sportswomen. The inaugural induction included 120 members with Sir Don Bradman as the first inductee and Dawn Fraser the first female inductee. In 1989, the Hall of Fame was expanded to include associate members who have assisted in the development of sport in Australia. In 2012, there were 518 members. Each year the Hall of Fame inducts notable retired athletes, associate members and upgrades one member to 'legend' status. The main award each year is the 'Don' Award but other awards include Team Sport Australia Award, Spirit of Sport Award and Hall of Fame Moments. The Australian Sports Medal is an award given to recognise achievements in Australian sport to commemorate Australian participation in major sporting events. The Oarsome Foursome is the nickname for an Australian men's rowing coxless four crew who competed with a clear lineage between 1990 and 2012, winning two Olympic gold medals and one silver medal, two world championships as a coxless four, and additional world championship titles in coxed boats. Victoria Toogood
Victoria Toogood is an Australian former rower. She was a national champion, a junior world champion and a medalist at World Championships. Club and state rowing Toogood's senior club rowing was in Adelaide from the Torrens Rowing Club and Riverside Rowing Club. Toogood first made South Australian state representation in 1991 in the youth four with Kate Slatter which contested and won the Bicentennial Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. The following year she again rowed in the South Australian youth four and was joined by Alison Davies. In 1993 Toogood was selected in the South Australian women's senior four to compete for the ULVA Trophy at the Interstate Regatta. Alison Nicole Fallon ( Davies, born 26 September 1974) is an Australian rower. She was a junior world champion in 1992 and competed at two Olympic Games and at four senior World Rowing Championships. State rowing Davies made State selection to represent South Australia in a youth coxless four competing for the Bicentennial Cup at the 1992 Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships.
