Račice (Litoměřice District)
Račice (german: Ratschitz) is a municipality and village in Litoměřice District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 300 inhabitants. It is the major rowing and flatwater canoeing venue in the Czech Republic. Etymology The name is derived from the personal name Radek, meaning "the village of Radek's people". It was originally written as Radčice. Geography Račice is located about southeast of Litoměřice, southeast of Ústí nad Labem and north of Prague. It lies in the Lower Eger Table. Garry Gerard Paul Herbert (b. 3 October 1969) is an Olympic gold medal-winning cox. He steered the British coxed pair (brothers Jonny and Greg Searle) to victory in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics (the last time this event was included in the Olympic rowing programme) and the 1993 World Rowing Championships. Jonathan "Jonny" William C. Searle (born 8 May 1969) is a British rower and business man. Along with his brother Gregory, and coxswain Garry Herbert, Searle won the gold medal in the coxed pair event at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Early life and education Searle was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. He was educated at Hampton School and Christ Church, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford University, he competed in the Boat Race in 1988, 1989, and 1990. Oxford triumphed in all three races. Searle was President of the Oxford University Boat Club in the 1989–1990 academic year. Career Searle is an Olympic gold medalist, winning the coxed pairs event at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with his brother Greg Searle. He also won a World Championships gold medal in 1993. Gregory Mark Pascoe Searle (born 20 March 1972) is a British Olympic rower educated at Hampton School and London South Bank University. Career Greg Searle is an Olympic gold medalist, winning the coxed pairs event at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with his brother Jonny Searle and cox Garry Herbert. He also won a World Championships gold medal in 1993 with his brother. In the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he finished third in the coxless four event. Following Atlanta, he converted briefly to competing in the single scull (coached by Harry Mahon) where he won bronze at the 1997 World Rowing Championships and in the same year the single sculls' event at Henley Royal Regatta. Oleksandr Ivanovych Zaskalko ( uk, Олександр Іванович Заскалько; born 15 April 1967 in Dnipropetrovsk) is a Ukrainian rower. He competed in the 1988, 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Biography Oleksandr Zaskalko was born in Dniepropetrovsk, where he began to engage in academic rowing during his school years. During his military service, he was a member of the local ASC(Army Sports Club). At the 1988 Olympic Games, Zaskalko, as part of the Soviet team, finished fourth among quad sculls. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he performed under the flag of Ukraine. In 1993 and 1994, he took silver in quad sculls at the World Championships. In 1995, he was fourth in the quad sculls' competition.
