Mechinagar ( ne, मेचीनगर) is a municipality in Jhapa District, Province No. 1, Nepal and is the main entry point from India on Nepal's eastern border. Nepal's custom office is in Kakarvitta ( ne, काँकडभिट्टा), a section of the municipality. The city is almost 475 km south east of the capital city Kathmandu and 115 km east of the state capital of Province One Biratnagar. Origin Mechinagar municipality initially originated by combining Dhulabari ( ne, धुलाबारी) and Kakarbhitta Village Development Committee. The municipality got its first territorial expansion by getting merged with nearby VDCs Bahundangi, Duhagadhi, Jyamirgadhi and Dhaijan in 2073 BS (2017 AD). The population of the expanded city is 131,520 (as of the 2021 census) and its area is 192.52 sq. km. The municipality is the municipality with the highest population in the country. Jhapa District
Jhapa ( ne, झापा जिल्ला; ) is a district of Province No. 1 in eastern Nepal named after a Rajbanshi word "Jhapa" meaning "to cover" (verb). The latest official data, the 2021 Nepal Census, puts the total population of the district at 994,090. The total area of the district is 1,606 square kilometres. Location Jhapa is the easternmost district of Nepal and lies in the fertile Terai plains. It is part of the Outer Terai. Bahundangi
Bahundangi was a village development committee in Jhapa District in the Province No. 1 of South-Eastern Nepal. From 2017, this VDC is officially merged by Government with Mechinagar Municipality History Bahundangi, the name is believed to be founded by a Brahmin woman who was a very kind hearted and selfless. Dhulabari
Dhulabari is a town in Jhapa District in the Province No. 1 of south-eastern Nepal. It is part of Mechinagar municipality. Geography Dhulabari is situated in the plains at the base of the Himalaya mountains. Birtamod
Birtamod (Nepali: बिर्तामोड नगरपालिका) is a municipality in Jhapa District of Nepal. It is the commercial, educational and transport hub of Jhapa District. Bhadrapur Airport
Bhadrapur Airport , also known as Chandragadhi Airport, is a domestic airport located in Bhadrapur, primarily serving Jhapa and Ilam districts in Province No. 1, Nepal. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal considers it an important hub for passengers entering Nepal from the north eastern states of India, Bhutan and Bangladesh. History In the October of 1963, it was reported that the Government of Nepal was constructing an aerodrome in Bhadrapur, Jhapa with Chinese help. The initial project was for military purpose. Mechi Highway
Mechi Highway ( Nepali: मेची राजमार्ग) is a two-lane freeway in Eastern Nepal, spanning about 268 kilometers in length. The highway connects all the districts of Mechi zone, hence the name ''Mechi''. It runs from the VDC of Kechana in Jhapa district in the south to the remote north of Taplejung through the district of Ilam. Mechi River
The Mechi River is a trans-boundary river flowing through Nepal and India. It is a tributary of the Mahananda River. Course The Mechi originates in the Mahabharat Range in Nepal. It flows through Nepal, forms the boundary between India and Nepal and then flows through the Indian state of Bihar to join the Mahananda in Kishanganj district. The Mechi-Mahananda interfluve is a transitional area between the hills and the plains and exhibits a wide range of topographical variations. The rivers originating in the hills attain a braiding character and have well developed alluvial fans.
