Eliza McCartney (born 11 December 1996) is a New Zealand track and field athlete who competes in the pole vault and won the bronze medal in this event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Sir John Macartney, 1st Baronet (died 29 May 1812) was an Irish Member of Parliament. Biography He was the second son of William Macartney, a long-serving Member of Parliament for Belfast, by his wife Catherine, daughter of Thomas Bankes. He married firstly (by licence of the prerogative court of Ireland dated 26 February 1778) Anne, daughter of Edward Scriven by his wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Barclay of Dublin. John Ellison-Macartney
John William Ellison-Macartney (1818 – 13 February 1904), born John William Ellison, was a barrister and Irish Conservative Party politician elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. From 1874 to 1885, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Tyrone. Ellison-Macartney was called to the bar in 1846, and to the Irish Bar in 1848. In 1870, he was High Sheriff of County Armagh. Ellison-Macartney first stood for Parliament at the Tyrone by-election in 1873 after the death of Henry T. Lowry-Corry. He narrowly lost that contest (by 3,103 votes to 3,139) to his sole opponent, the Conservative Henry W. Innes McCartney (born 1964) is a British nautical archaeologist and historian. He is a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University in the UK. Career McCartney is a nautical archaeologist specializing in the interaction of shipwreck archaeology with the historical record. In 1999, he discovered the 12-inch-gunned submarine off Start Point in the English Channel. In 2001, he discovered the wreck of , sunk at the Battle of Jutland. In the same year he led expeditions to identify some of the U-boats sunk during Operation Deadlight. Fourteen U-boats were surveyed and several new sites discovered. In 2003 he identified the mystery World War I U-boat off Trevose Head, Cornwall as by scraping the propellers to reveal the shipyard stamp. Hussey Burgh Macartney (10 April 1799 – 8 October 1894) was the Dean of Melbourne from 1852 until his death. The son of Sir John Macartney, 1st Baronet and his second wife Catherine Burgh (daughter of the eminent but short-lived judge Walter Hussey Burgh), he was born in Dublin, Ireland, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Sir Samuel Halliday McCartney (1833–1906), also spelled Halliday Macartney, was a Scottish military surgeon and diplomat serving the Chinese government during the late Qing dynasty. McCartney was a member of the same family as George Macartney, the 18th century British ambassador to China. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, graduating MD in 1858 with a thesis on phthisis. He served as a surgeon in the Crimean War, then went with his regiment to China and resigned his commission to join the Chinese army of General Charles Gordon which was subduing the Taiping rebels. He decided to make his home in China and married the niece of Chinese politician Li Hongzhang in December 1864.
