John Ellison-Macartney
John William Ellison-Macartney (1818 – 13 February 1904), born John William Ellison, was a barrister and Irish Conservative Party politician elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. From 1874 to 1885, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Tyrone. Ellison-Macartney was called to the bar in 1846, and to the Irish Bar in 1848. In 1870, he was High Sheriff of County Armagh. Ellison-Macartney first stood for Parliament at the Tyrone by-election in 1873 after the death of Henry T. Lowry-Corry. He narrowly lost that contest (by 3,103 votes to 3,139) to his sole opponent, the Conservative Henry W. Lowry-Corry (a nephew of the deceased MP); the Liberals had not fielded a candidate in Tyrone since 1852. Irish Conservative Party
The Irish Conservative Party, often called the Irish Tories, was one of the dominant Irish political parties in Ireland in the 19th century. It was affiliated with the Conservative Party in Great Britain. Throughout much of the century it and the Irish Liberal Party were rivals for electoral dominance among Ireland's small electorate within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, with parties such as the movements of Daniel O'Connell and later the Independent Irish Party relegated into third place. William Macartney was an Irish politician. Thomas Alexander Dickson
Thomas Alexander Dickson PC (12 October 1833 – 17 June 1909) was an Irish Liberal Party politician. He represented a series of Irish constituencies as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Dickson was elected to Westminster at the general election in 1874 as MP for Dungannon in County Tyrone, and re-elected at the 1880 general election. His re-election was declared void on 10 June 1880 following a petition from the losing candidate, Colonel Knox. His son, James Dickson won the seat at the subsequent by-election with an increased majority. He was returned to Parliament the following year in a by-election for the County Tyrone constituency, and held that seat until the Tyrone constituency was divided at the 1885 general election.
