Dar es Salaam Region (''Mkoa wa Dar es Salaam'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions and is located in the east coast of the country. The region covers an area of . The Swahili people ( sw, WaSwahili) comprise mainly Bantu, Afro-Arab and Comorian ethnic groups inhabiting the Swahili coast, an area encompassing the Zanzibar archipelago and mainland Tanzania's seaboard, littoral Kenya, northern Mozambique, the Comoros Islands, southwestern Somalia and Northwest Madagascar.
