Mazie Turner
Mazie Karen Turner (1954 - 7 June 2014) was an artist from Newcastle, Australia. She worked in photography, sculpture and painting. She was born in Sydney in 1954 to parents Jim and Zug. After attending art school, she moved to Wangi Wangi, and had three children with partner Richard Tipping. She died in 2014. A commemorative sculpture by Tipping, titled ''Morning'' (2007) features in the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery's Sculpture Park. She was commemorated in a memorial exhibition at Newcastle Art Gallery in September 2017. Turner's work was included in Part II of the Know My Name exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia in 2021-22. Education and work Turner achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking and photography at the South Australian School of Art (1976). Newcastle Art Gallery
The Newcastle Art Gallery (formerly the Newcastle City Art Gallery, Newcastle Region Art Gallery) is a large, public art museum in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. History Founded in 1945 with an art collection consisting of 123 works donated by Roland Pope which was conditional on the construction of a gallery to hold it, the museum opened its doors in 1957 and moved to a new, purpose-built museum building in 1977. As a Sydneysider, Pope's collection reflect was Sydney centric. Under the directorships of the gallery's first two directors Gil Docking and David Thomas, both from Melbourne, saw the collection expand to include artists from Melbourne and Adelaide. A purpose built building was completed in the 1970s and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on Friday 11 March 1977. Wangi Wangi, New South Wales
Wangi Wangi () is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia, which forms a peninsula jutting eastwards into Lake Macquarie. Wangi Wangi is a well known holiday spot, that was frequented in the early days by families from the coalfields. It is known for its views, bush-walking, and fishing spots.
