Mazreku (archaic forms: Meserechus, Mânzaraku, Mazaraki or Mazarek) is an Albanian tribe or ''fis'' from the Dukagjin highlands. Historically they were one of the most widespread tribes, and placenames related to them are found throughout Albania: examples include Mazrek of Shkodër, or Mazrek in Tiranë. Albanian Tribes
The Albanian tribes ( sq, fiset shqiptare) form a historical mode of social organization (''farefisní'') in Albania and the southwestern Balkans characterized by a common culture, often common patrilineal kinship ties tracing back to one progenitor and shared social ties. The ''fis'' ( sq-definite, fisi; commonly translated as "tribe", also as "clan" or "kin" community) stands at the center of Albanian organization based on kinship relations, a concept which can be found among southern Albanians also with the term ''farë'' ( sq-definite, fara). Inherited from ancient Illyrian social structures, Albanian tribal society emerged in the early Middle Ages as the dominant form of social organization among Albanians. Mazarek (vojvoda)
Mazarek ( sr, Мазарек; 1414–23) was an Albanian nobleman and general in the service of the Serbian Despotate, with the title of '' vojvoda''. At the beginning of the 15th century he was the governor of Rudnik and Ostrvica in Serbia. He was one of the commanders of Serbian troops during the Second Scutari War (1419–23) between Serbia and Venice. After death of Balša III in 1421 Mazarek was appointed the governor of Zeta. Mazarek was Albanian ('' Arbanas''). In 1414 Mazarek was recorded as governor of Rudnik and Ostrvica in the Serbian Despotate. In August 1421 Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarević appointed ''vojvoda'' Mazarek to administer his possessions in Zeta. The nobility of Bar were then invited to a meeting in the cathedral of St. George where they recognized the suzerainty of the Serbian despot, while Mazarek recognized their right to govern the city according to their own legislations. Pjetër Mazreku
Pjetër Mazreku (1584–16??) ( it, Pietro Massarecchi, lat, Petrus Massarecchius) was an Albanian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He wrote documents on the state of Christians in the Ottoman Empire, and authored an Albanian etymological dictionary. Life Mazreku was born in Prizren. He served as the Archbishop of Bar from 1624 to 1634, while in 1631 he became the apostolic visitor of Hungary, Serbia and Slavonia. Matija Mazarek
Matija Mazarek or Matija Masarek ( sr, Матија Мазарек; 1726– 1792) was an 18th-century Catholic priest. In the second half of the 18th century he was the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Skopje. His reports to the Vatican are an important source for demography study of his diocese. Origin Of Albanian origin, Mazarek was born in Janjevo in 1726. Noel Malcolm believes that they were Albanians who absorbed Serbian and forgot the Albanian language. The basis for his position are toponyms in Malësia (region of northern Albania and southern Montenegro). Elsie links the name to Mazreku, an Albanian tribe north of Shkodër. The name Mazrek(u), which means horse breeder in Albanian, is found throughout all Albanian regions. Blerim Mazreku (born 24 October 1981) is a Kosovar professional basketball player who plays for KB Sigal Prishtina of Kosovo Basketball Superleague. He was born in Therande in Kosovo and also started the career in Theranda at KB Ylli team. Most of the times he played for Sigal Prishtina where he won 4x Kosovo Superleague, 2x Kosovo cup, 1x Kosovo Supercup and one time Balkan League. Konstantin Kastrioti (died 1390)
Kostandin Kastrioti Mazreku (died ca. 1390) was an Albanian regional ruler in parts of the wider Mat and Dibër areas. He is the first Kastrioti to be known by his full name and the progenitor of all members of the family. His son was Pal Kastrioti (also attested with other names), grandfather of the Albanian national hero, Skanderbeg. Historiography The historical figure of Kostandin Kastrioti Mazreku is attested in Giovanni Andrea Angelo Flavio Comneno's ''Genealogia diversarum principum familiarum ''. The mythological ancient lineages produced by Angelo in his writings are fictional constructions, which he wrote in the context of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, but medieval biographies are considered reliable as they are corroborated and reproduced in others sources and have been compared with archival material in contemporary research.
