Sidney Randolph DeLong
Sidney Randolph DeLong (December 28, 1828 – November 24, 1914) was the first elected mayor of Tucson, Arizona. Elected in 1871 for a one-year term, the municipality formed the township of Tucson with two sections of land purchased from the U.S. government. In 1874 DeLong represented the Tucson area in the 8th Arizona Territorial Legislature. Early years He was born to Mary Huston DeLong of Grand Isle, Vermont, on December 28, 1828, in Beekmantown, New York. His father was from Goshen, Vermont. His parents met and married in Beekmantown where his father was a schoolteacher. His father died in 1832, when DeLong was three years old. He attended elementary school in Upstate New York, high school in Isle La Motte, Vermont. He studied civil engineering at the military academy in Plattsburgh, New York. Levi Manning
Levi Howell Manning (May 18, 1864 – August 1, 1935) served as Mayor of Tucson, Arizona from 1905 to 1907. Biography Levi H. Manning was born second in a family of four brothers and four sisters in Halifax County, North Carolina to Vannoy Hartrog Manning, a U.S. Representative from Mississippi and an officer in the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War. In 1883, during summer break while attending the University of Mississippi, Manning and a fraternity brother acquired the use of a circus elephant. The elephant escaped from Manning and rampaged through town. Upon hearing the story, Manning's mother advised him to get out of town before his father found out. Regina Romero
Regina Romero (born September 20, 1974) is an American politician. She is mayor of Tucson, Arizona, having been elected after previously serving on the city council. She is the first woman and first person of Mexican descent to hold the office since the 1870s. Career Romero was raised in Somerton, Arizona. Jonathan Rothschild (born 1955) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 41st mayor of Tucson, Arizona from 2011 to 2019. From 2001 to 2011, Rothschild was managing partner at the law firm Mesch Clark Rothschild. Early life and education Rothschild was born to a Jewish family and attended Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, Arizona. Robert E. Walkup (November 14, 1936 – March 12, 2021) was an American politician who served as the 40th List of mayors of Tucson, Arizona, mayor of Tucson from 1999 to 2011. George Miller (Arizona Politician)
George Miller (October 24, 1922December 25, 2014) was an American politician who served as the mayor of Tucson, Arizona from 1991 until December 6, 1999. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He received both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in political science from the University of Arizona. Miller served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was shot in the right leg during the Battle of Saipan. Miller served on the Tucson city council for fourteen years prior to becoming mayor in 1991. After serving as mayor for two terms, Miller declined to run again, and was succeeded by Bob Walkup on December 6, 1999. Thomas John Volgy (born March 19, 1946) is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Arizona, where he has been on faculty since 1971. Lewis Curtis "Lew" Murphy (November 2, 1933 – December 1, 2005) was a US Air Force pilot, lawyer, and politician. He served sixteen years as Mayor of Tucson, Arizona. Biography Murphy was born in New York City on November 2, 1933, to H. Waldo and Elizabeth (Curtis) Murphy. He grew up in Clinton, Iowa, the home of his mother. He later attended Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota. From 1950 to 1955 Murphy attended the University of Arizona, receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration. Jim Corbett (politician)
James Nielson Corbett Jr. (September 26, 1924 – June 30, 2007) was an Arizona politician. He was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 1956 to 1958, the Tucson City Council from 1963 to 1967, and then Tucson City Mayor from 1967 to 1971. In 1979 Corbett was elected clerk of the Pima County Superior Court, a position he held for twenty years. Jim Corbett was born in Los Angeles, California to a Tucson pioneering family. Henry Jaastad
Henry O. Jaastad (1872–1965) was an influential Tucson, Arizona architect. His firm created over 500 buildings and Jaastad was Mayor of Tucson for 14 years. Johnston Knox Corbett (June 20, 1861 – April 22, 1934) was elected to two one year terms as mayor of Tucson, Arizona. He served from January 1915 to January 1917. Biography J.
