Tagbilaran, officially the City of Tagbilaran ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Tagbilaran), is a 3rd class component city and capital of the province of Bohol, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 104,976 people. Encompassing a land area of , with a coastline of on the southwestern part of the island, the city shares its boundaries with the towns of Cortes, Corella, and Baclayon. Tagbilaran is the principal gateway to Bohol, southeast of the national capital of Manila and south of the regional capital, Cebu City. Etymology According to oral tradition, the name is a Hispanicized form of "''Tagubilaan''", a compound of ''tagu'', meaning "''to hide''" and "''Bilaan''", referring to the Blaan people, who were said to have raided the Visayan Islands. Dan Neri Lim is the former mayor of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines, from 2004 up to 2013. Early life His father is Segundo Soriano Lim, a direct descendant of one of the first three Chinese nationals whose business prospered in Bohol even before the Second World War. Mr. Segundo Lim is still an active member of the city's business circle. Dan's mother is Gloria Basa Neri, from Ozamis City. At one time, she took the cudgels as vice mayor of Tagbilaran City and presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. Dan Lim was born on February 11, 1952, and is married to the former Dr. Sharleen Mathay Corral of Makati. Lim studied at the East Visayan Academy in Cebu City and finished his secondary education at Rafael Palma College (now University of Bohol) in 1968. John Geesnell Lim Yap II (born October 16, 1977), more known in Bohol as "Baba", is a Filipino politician and was the mayor of Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines from 2013 to 2022 until he was succeeded by his wife Jane Yap. Early life and education Yap, born John Geesnell Lim Yap II, is the second son of John U. Yap and Geesnell N. Lim. He finished his elementary at Holy Spirit School of Tagbilaran in 1989 and secondary at Divine Word College of Tagbilaran, now Holy Name University in 1993. He took up accountancy at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City. He became the chief accountant of their family business at Bohol Tropics Resort Club and owns a nightclub called Lazer Party Club in Tagbilaran City. Jane Censoria Cajes-Yap (born January 10, 1990) is a Filipino politician who is known as a former president of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council in the Philippines and the incumbent city mayor of Tagbilaran, Bohol since 2022. She is the wife of former Tagbilaran city mayor John Geesnell "Baba" Yap. After winning the SK presidency in Bohol, Philippines, Cajes was elected President in the National SK Federation and with her position, also earned her a concomitant role as the ''Ex Officio'' Commissioner of the National Youth Commission (NYC).
