A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. Gina Romand (born Georgina García y Tamargo; 15 February 1938 – 3 December 2022) was a Cuban-Mexican actress. At the time of her death she was one of the last stars from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Life and career Romand was born as Georgina García y Tamargo on 15 February 1938 in Havana, Cuba. Her artistic career began in her native country as a star vedette of the Tropicana nightclub. Later she would move to the United States to dance in the show "La Parisien" held at the Casino de Paris, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Enrique Lizalde Chávez (January 9, 1937 – June 3, 2013) was a Mexican film, television and theater actor whose career spanned from the 1960s to the 2000s. He appeared in dozens of films and television shows, including telenovelas, throughout his career. Lizalde began his career in the early 1960s. His film roles included ''Corona de lágrimas'' in 1968 and '' El Monasterio de los Buitres'' in 1973. Lizalde's numerous telenovela credits included '' Chispita'', ''Dulce desafío'', ''María la del Barrio'', '' Alcanzar una estrella'', ''Esmeralda (Mexican TV series)'', and '' La usurpadora''. He was the first actor to portray Juan del Diablo on the original 1966 Mexican telenovela, '' Corazón salvaje''. He was later cast as Noel Mancera in the 1993 remake of Corazón salvaje. Anita Blanch (July 26, 1910 – April 23, 1983) was a Spanish-born, Mexican actress, who worked in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She was nominated for an Ariel Award from the Mexican Academy of Film three times and won the Best Supporting Actress Award from Diosa de Plata (Silver Goddess Award) in 1963. Biography Ana María Blanch Ruiz was born on 26 July 1910 in Sagunto, Valencia. Ana, who went by the name of "Anita" and her sister, actress Isabelita Blanch, who both had interest in the theater, arrived in Mexico in the 1920s. Alberto Zayas Govín (February 14, 1908 – 1983) was a Cuban rumba singer and songwriter who founded one of the first recorded rumba ensembles, Grupo Afrocubano Lulú Yonkori. He is considered one of the most important guaguancó vocalists/composers in the history of rumba.
