Max TV was a New Zealand music channel available free to air on UHF channel 49 in Auckland from 28 October 1993 to 3 December 1997. When Max TV began transmission it was known as Max: The Music Channel. The channel was jointly owned and operated by Aztel Holdings (radio personality Kevin Black, who owned the frequency licence, and his partner Jeff Thorpe) and On-Line Productions, a video production house."Listener". 15 January 1994 The channel initially broadcast from 4:00pm until midnight Monday to Thursday; 4:00pm until 1:00am on Friday; 7:00am until 1:00am on Saturday; and 7:00am until midnight on Sunday. Kevin Black (broadcaster)
Kevin Black (1943–18 February 2013), known professionally as Blackie, was a New Zealand radio broadcaster. A former breakfast host on Auckland's Radio Hauraki, he was once the highest-paid private radio DJ in New Zealand. Black left St. Patrick's College, Wellington at the age of 15, and was a seaman with the British Merchant Navy, before moving into radio. Black died suddenly on 18 February 2013 after suffering a suspected heart attack at his home in Remuera, Auckland, just a few days short of his 70th birthday. His last on-air role was at the 60s and 70s radio station Solid Gold, where he worked from 1997 until his retirement in 2009. Women Against Pornography (WAP) was a radical feminist activist group based out of New York City that was influential in the anti-pornography movement of the late 1970s and the 1980s. WAP was the most well known feminist anti-pornography group out of many that were active throughout the United States and the anglophone world, primarily from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. After previous failed attempts to start a broad feminist anti-pornography group in New York City, WAP was finally established in 1978. WAP quickly drew widespread support for its anti-pornography campaign, and in late 1979 held a March on Times Square that included over 5000 supporters. The Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA; mi, Te Mana Whanonga Kaipāho) is a New Zealand Crown entity created by the Broadcasting Act 1989 to develop and uphold standards of broadcasting for radio, free-to-air and pay television. The main functions of the BSA are to develop and maintain codified broadcasting standards and to operate a complaints procedure. The BSA is made up of a board appointed for a fixed term by the Governor-General on the advice of the Minister of Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media, meaning that practically the Minister of Broadcasting (and Cabinet) appoint the board. AudioCulture is a New Zealand On Air funded online project billed as the "''Noisy Library of New Zealand Music''". Working with artists, historians and music industry people, the website tells the story of nearly 100 years of New Zealand popular music culture, from the first local recordings in the 1920s to digital streaming. The website launched on 31 May 2013, with 250 published pages and since then has been growing steadily with new pages and stories added regularly.
