Max Engman
Max Robert Engman (27 September 1945 – 19 March 2020) was a Finnish historian and translator. Engman was born in Helsinki. Engman, who from 1968–1973 was an official at the Finnish national archives in Helsinki, published in 1983 a much-noticed dissertation about St. Petersburg and Finland. In 1985, he was appointed professor in general history at Åbo Akademi. Engman's research foremost studied the Finnish–Russian relations and the European empires. He also studied constitutional issues and the administration. His contributions as a subeditor for ''Historisk Tidskrift för Finland ('Historical Journal for Finland') is a Swedish-language Finnish history journal which has been published by the ('Historical society') since 1916. It was founded in 1916 by , who had founded the ('Swedish students' historical society', which l ...'' from 1971–1982 and the journal's editor in chief from 1982–2000 are considered as great. ('Historical Journal for Finland') is a Swedish-language Finnish history journal which has been published by the ('Historical society') since 1916. John Reed (journalist)
John "Jack" Silas Reed (October 22, 1887 – October 17, 1920) was an American journalist, poet, and communist activist. Reed first gained prominence as a war correspondent during the Mexican Revolution for '' Metropolitan'' and World War I for ''The Masses''. He is best known for his coverage of the October Revolution in Petrograd, Russia, which he wrote about in his 1919 book ''Ten Days That Shook the World''. Reed supported the Soviet takeover of Russia, even briefly taking up arms to join the Red Guards in 1918. He hoped for a similar Communist revolution in the United States, and co-founded the short-lived Communist Labor Party of America in 1919. He died in Moscow of spotted typhus in 1920. At the time of his death he may have soured on the Soviet leadership, but he was given a hero's burial by the Soviet Union, and is one of only three Americans buried at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis.
