Mawj
Mawj (foaled 24 April 2020) is a retired Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. She showed very good form as a juvenile in 2022 when she won the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and was placed in both the Albany Stakes and the Cheveley Park Stakes. In the following year she won two races in the United Arab Emirates before taking the 1000 Guineas. Background Mawj is a small bay filly with a white star and a white coronet on her left forefoot bred in Ireland by her owner, Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin organisation. Her name is Arabic for "wave". She was sent into training with Saeed bin Suroor who is based in Newmarket in summer but moves to Godolphin's base in Dubai in winter. Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes
The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run on the July Course at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in July. History The event was established in 1947 as the Cherry Hinton Stakes, and the inaugural running was won by Great Fun. The present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, and for a period the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes was classed at Group 3 level. It was promoted to Group 2 status in 1996. The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes is currently held on the second day of Newmarket's three-day July Festival meeting. The equivalent race for male horses is the July Stakes. The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late September. History The event is named after Cheveley Park, an estate purchased by Harry McCalmont in 1892. It was established in 1899, and the inaugural running was won by Lutetia. The race is currently held on the final day of Newmarket's three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting, the same day as the Cambridgeshire Handicap. Exceed And Excel (foaled 5 September 2000) is a retired multiple Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. After his racing career ended he has been successful as a breeding stallion, having sired over 150 Stakes winners. Background The colt was purchased at the 2002 Inglis Easter yearling sale by his trainer Tim Martin. Martin had previously never paid more than $30,000 for a horse but purchased him for A$375,000. At the time, he had no future owner in line for the horse. After what Martin described as a "scary" two weeks, he drew Sydney lawyer Alan Osburg into a 50% interest while the remaining equity was later taken by businessman Nick Moraitis. Bivouac (foaled 4 November 2016) is a multiple Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bivouac is a home-bred stallion by Godolphin. Bivouac is out of the mare, Dazzler, who won her first two starts at Geelong and Flemington in an 11-start career. Excelebration (foaled 13 April 2008) is an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. As a three-year-old he recorded wins in the Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen and Hungerford Stakes, before winning his first Group 1 in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. After finishing second to the unbeaten Frankel in his first two starts of 2012 he recorded successive victories in the Prix Jacques Le Marois and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. These were followed by a fourth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Mile, after which he was retired to stud. Outstrip (foaled 27 January 2011) is a British Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. He was one of the leading two-year-old in Britain in 2013 when he won the Champagne Stakes (Great Britain), Champagne Stakes and was placed in both the Vintage Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes. In November he was sent to the United States where he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Background Outstrip is a grey colt bred by the Darley Stud. Margot Did (foaled 17 March 2008) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After being sold cheaply as a yearling and again as a two-year-old she entered training with Michael Bell at Newmarket. As a juvenile in 2010 she showed high-class form, winning twice and finished second in the Albany Stakes, Princess Margaret Stakes and Lowther Stakes. In 2012 she was beaten in her first two races but established herself as a potentially high-class sprinter with wins in the Scurry Stakes and the Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes. In a career which lasted from August 1995 until August 1997 she ran ten times and won seven races.
