Mauro Maugeri
Mauro Maugeri (19 January 1959 - 30 November 2017) was an Italian water polo coach and water polo player. Life and career Born in Aci Castello, Maugeri started his career as a player as a centerback in his hometown club, and later played for Pozzillo and Poseidon. Maugeri debuted as a coach in 1987 with Pozzillo. He got his major success coaching for 9 seasons the women's team Orizzonte Catania, with whom he won 9 national titles and 6 LEN Champions Cups. In 2001 he entered the staff of the Italy women's national water polo team, becoming head coach in 2006; with the team he won the silver medal at the 2006 Women's European Water Polo Championship, at the 2006 FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup and at the 2006 FINA Water Polo World League, and took part at the 2008 Summer Olympics, placing sixth. Aci Castello
Aci Castello ( scn, Jaci Casteḍḍu) is a ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Catania in Sicily, Italy. The city is located north of Catania on the Mediterranean coast. The primary economic sectors are agriculture and industry (in Catania). The city is neighbored by Aci Catena, Acireale, Catania, San Gregorio di Catania and Valverde. History The town of Aci Castello developed around the castle, which was built in 1076 by the Normans upon the foundations of a 7th-century Byzantine fortification. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia.
